In 5th ed core rules there were no flyers. they were still just FW rules. the valkyrie was put into the game as a fast skimmer which is why they upped the armor from 10 to 12. the availability of flyers went up for the core rules starting in 6th.

IIRC many factions solved the AA problem by adding a defense line with a Quad-Lascannon. This might also have been the last (only?) time where buildings had useful rules

Stronghold assault-great expansion. we still use it in our 5th ed games.

Troubled By Non-Compliant Worlds

I had to skip a lot of the options because I feel like a lot of the problems could be fixed by not screwing around with editions.
Yes, the game has been around for a long long time. But from this end it kinda looks like they took nine tries to make some good rules and they got a lot of stuff wrong. Just when it seemed like GW was taking the good and ditching the bad, they threw out the whole thing and started over. One can argue that 7th went over the top, but was the answer a total rules reset? No, of course not, it's marketing. GW hasn't written bad rules for forty years, they've been selling a product. If GW wanted they could write a bang up set of rules and the only reason to "edition up" would be to include new models.

Anticipation of 10th edition is having me want to continue to building up my collections of models, just to build.
The WH40k tournament scene should be it's own deal and not ham-fisted down everyone else's throat.
Power creep should reset army levels.
A new edition should change the game's IGYG method to alternating activations.
9th Edition is not the best, but far from the worst.
I am all for advancing the narrative regardless of it's results.
Codex Power Creep does encourage me to stay informed and up to date.

Syko, you seem to have answered with the minority on many issues… interesting.
Reset army levels? Not sure if I understand this, tho…
