A way to deal with the excess of AP is by finally including degrading AP with distance.

After all a gun shouldn't have full penetration power when attacking at its max range compared to point blank shots.

New Edition next year is a logical step if you take the pace into account with the GW published new codes.
I find it at least one year too early.
But GW is more interested to hold up sales.

It's more that a lot of the content we're getting now is likely still later than planned from the shenanigans of the last couple of years. I'd wager there was a 1 year gap of expansion material planned at first.

This guy gets it. It's probably why there may be an accelerated release for 10th. Come up with a new plan that a covid return can't derail and start over.

It’s amusing that some think a mythical tenth edition will magically fix everything and it would become a perfect game everybody loves to play.

I'm sure GW will promise that!

10th will most likely be a refining of 9th, like 9th was a refining of 8th. Basically the same game, with a few tweaks.

I had just finnished painting Yarrick and Pask...

AoC will be redone. Range, damage Strength and AP will be redone for all weapons. I see higher strength on some weapons, reduction on ap and damage adjusted.

Examples. 1. I dont see 48" anymore and AoC changing so they dont have to do too much with all the weapons. Most weapons should be AP0 and very little should have AP reduction and if so very little. You dont want things to keep changing and having AP keep going up

That would require invalidating codexes which GW historically doesn't do that often. 2 times so far in 40k.

I can see the argument that they won't invalidate codexes.

But I also think they've crept themselves into a hole. When the old "S4 AP-" is now "S5 AP-2", and the average melee unit has 4 attacks, the result is every army needing invuls, FNPs, AoC, Transhuman, immunity to rerolls etc on the defensive side of the equation. This feels like bloat because it is bloat, and the temptation to roll things back surely exists.

But if they did this codex by codex there would be a huge outpouring of rage and frustration.

I'm hoping 10E includes a complete overhaul on the rules and introduces D10 (to go with 10E) as well as D20...

Right now we have bloat on things such as: Armor of Contempt (-1 to AP), Cover (+1 to Sv), Sv+/++/+++, Orders/Stratagems/Doctrines/Character Abilities/Wargear all applying various (+/- 1 modifiers), X model can only be hit on Y, X model always hits on Z... Streamline it - completely! We don't need a return to 3E where I had to lug around something like 6 books just to play a game by the end of it...

And a huge plus? Indices! Level the playing field for everyone and have an Index which remains viable for the duration of the Edition, rather than being completely superseded by the Codex when it comes out...

I will not rest until the Tabletop Imperial Guard has been reduced to complete mediocrity. This is completely reflected in the lore.
