Yeah. I'm also not sure why truescalers are "idiots" with "no imagination"? I think they have to have quite a bit of imagination to understand that space marines as large and imposing supersoldiers, as opposed to the squat malformed mutants represented by the old models. They also have to have a good bit of imagination to figure out how to convert those squat deformed mutants into those large and imposing truescale supersoldiers.

Well done to all the truescale idiots out there with no imagination, another iconic kit you've killed.

fair enough, but I don't think it makes someone an idiot to imagine the 40k universe a specific way. Nobody's ruining kits because they prefer true scale proportions to more super deformed ones. Yeah, the kit is definitely disappointing but blaming anybody but GW isn't a good move.

I mean the spikes can be easily snipped.

this. This is what 40k is all about.

exactly, I more so mean the weird crusader looking mouth grille, actually examining newer MKIII art it's a pretty good representation. Guess I just preferred the more square eyes and flat edges. They do make good IW's in retrospect though.

My only objection was the (thankfully not very long lived) obsession with calling it TRU-Scale.

Properly scaled models themselves are a wonder.

Well the Mk6 plastics are now called NUscale as they're still not as big as what people think truescale should be.

They do new MKIII with iconic Death Guard helmets and don't show a single one in DG colors? Strange

I'm irritated that the legion torsos no longer "work" with the "new" kit...

I'm hoping that GW doesn't bother upgrading the MK 4 kit simply so that the upgrade kits FW has in resen aren't all obseleted

I wouldn't bet on it. Chances are updated kits for the various Legion special units will come out rather than keeping the current Mk4 when both 3 and 6 have been updated already.

They will go, I'm now wondering if next year's box at the same time might be new Mk 4 - maybe with different weapon sets - heavy or close combat, with something else new - maybe a bike squad or plastic land speeder?

The main issue with the old resin upgrade kits is they were designed to fit the older generation of marine kits that did not have the left hand attached. I've been experimenting with just using mk 4 and old firstborn arms on the newer bodies and it works fine - I'm not a purist so the mismatched parts doesn't bother me. If you feel the same way I would recommend grabbing a few boxes of mk 4 now before they disappear for good.

I'm torn with the new Mk III. I like the scale, quite like the design and can almost forgive the cut and paste poses from the mk6 kit, but .. they definitely aren't as cool as the old kit. If they were their own separate thing and you could still buy the old set I'd probably like them better.

This kit says a lot about GW's product strategy for Heresy though - apart from moving everything to plastic, seems that it will all get moved to the new scale, so I would expect to see mk 4 and most of the legacy resin characters (like the command squads, Praetor set) go in the nearish future. There's clearly no appetite for mark-specific accessories (maybe legion specific) or multiple resin upgrade kits. It's also clear the modular plastic marine kit style with torsos, bolters with no hands attached etc is dead.

I hope that each Mk gets their own command squad so we can add some variety at least. My worst fear is that they do a mk 2, 4, 5, 7 tactical squads all with the same poses and the same accessory sprues and same lack of customization options.

I think we're going to get certain standard accessory sprues for certain key units and wargear (I.E. Standard breacher kit, standard assault marine kit, special weapons, heavy weapons, etc.), but we still seem set to get certain stuff in resin (heads for example). The heads released thus far seem to be mostly advertised as legion specific AND mark specific (at least some of them are indicated specifically as legion specific mk6 heads, I didn't check through all of them), so I think your concerns there are unfounded to some extent. As for the resin characters and units, yeah I would avoid those and wait for the resculpts. The new legion specific praetors that have been released since HH2.0 dropped all appear to conform to new scale, so those are clean. Likewise the legion specific terminator units would appear to be safe as well for the time being, as GW does not appear to be resculpting cataphractii, and one would assume they will leave the tartaros as is as well.

Maybe legion and mk specific is what we should expect from now on, like the SoH weapons kit that dropped recently. I had a look over the legion resin heads and they are all marketed as mk 6, the rest are older kits designed to give some legion flair to the older plastics. What I'm wondering is - is it feasible to do legion specific head & weapon upgrades for every mark, for every legion? Surely not. I.e they never made a Raven Guard mk 3 head upgrade set, just beaks for mk 4. I can see each legion getting at least one of each, but doing that for all the marks - can't see that happening. Another issue is - if we're moving away from generic resin upgrades, does that mean certain weapon types will end up locked to certain kits? Hopefully not. I'd like to see a return of the mail order service where you could grab particular sprues.. ancient history now.

It does raise a lot of questions around the future of the model range. If the basics are getting rescaled, you'd have to assume at some point that all the legion specific squads - at least the power armour ones - would need to be redone either due to scale, or age. There are some very dated (although nice) kits that don't fit the new style at all. Modelling is my favorite part of the hobby at the moment so I hate it when options disappear or change so much that you can no longer make the conversions you want!

Honestly the cost to design and produce a set of resin heads or shoulder pads is negligible, the payback period is probably very short. It's probably a no-brainer for FW to offer them, they likely pay for themselves after just a few sales.
