Right, i have roughly 3000 points worth of necrons and even before the 7th edition launch i was feeling quite, "bored" lack of upgrades to units and lack of psykers (especially in 7th) has made me looking at possibilities of a change. Yes you can upgrade the generic overlords but im finding that everyone sticks to the same upgrades... Warscythe MSS. Theres no "me" in there.
Warriors are simply unupgradable. Even the Crypteks are quite dull as they have 2 options each and most of the options suck. The only thing that has an element of custom is the ctan shard. Although when i field one they do quite poor

Another note is im anti spam . I own 2 flyers and thats the limit i set myself . I play for fun not in tournaments etc

so i started checking other codexes and came across Dark Angels...

I absolutely love 2+ saves and love bikes even more. And i think they are the direction I need to go. After a while of the initial excitement of a new army type, it dawned on me that even though theres so much to customise with weapons, and theres psykers etc, that my lists will almost be the same every game . Either a ravenwing list or a deathwing list...(not really looked into a mixed list as of yet)

Basically the point of this thread is for people to help me decide whether to stick or twist.
Reasons for keeping or flogging my necrons ,
pros and cons of getting DA's?

Going a step further i would like to tinker in possibly testing a dark angel blood angel alliance , but thats for another day.

Well - first off, probably no army is going to have as many upgrade options as Marines. The are the pretty golden boys with all the toys. Necrons did get a huge boost in upgrades and options with their codex compared to the old one. Even though an individual unit doesn't have many upgrades like sergeants, extra weapons and toys etc, the whole army feels (to me) like it has a lot of different ways to tweak it and different playing styles. Especially if you're just playing for fun. You've got hordes of Warriors with Arks - you've got hordes of Spyders and scarabs, you can go elite infantry, or flood the board with AV 13 vehicles or with fast jetbike things...
Try the C'tan.. try two C'tan's teleporting through a monolith... sounds fun to me even if it's not the most 'competitive'.

I think the options are all there - just not if you want lots of options that are ALL competitive. If you want a 2+ save biker army with lots of Psykers and that's fun for you - then yeah go for that. You should try out the tournament scene - you might have more fun with it than you imagine.

From my own games, bikes are a pain to kill unless you put specialized units against them.

When using my friends Space Marines against his Space Marines (yeah he has a lot of models) I need 3's to hit and 5's to wound using normal weapons or if I am assaulting bike to bike which, for some reason we let happen turn one and last until turn 6

In the works

Warhammer 40k. Enjoy it or go play something else. Life is too short to complain.

I say go for it, variety is the spice of life after all. Although I'm not sure I'd just ditch the crons, maybe pare down but you never get back what ya put in.
In any case, right now is a great time to start a DA army anyway, they're super cheap thanks to Dark Vengeance and the models look awesome.
