hey there, just got into 40k (modelling, painting and gamming, I've been following the story and videogames for many years now) and here are my first models.
think they turned out pretty nice, though the flash on my camera made some of them look glossy because of the 'ardcoat under the lahmian medium (you can notice the difference in the 1st two pics, though to the naked eye they look the same).

Very nicely done there mate did you use washes to darken the armour and the dark red sections? or did you just use very dark paint layering?

Aha I see it looks very nicely done if want for a try on a normal space marine you paint next, on the blue armour sections give it a blue wash should make the armour still darker, but may give off bit more depth to the armour itself. As comparison to another, if it doesn't look right, can always re wash the areas in nuin oil

But it still looks really good painted nevertheless

Hey no prob its what used on my chosen when layering different reds on, and it ended up darkening the already dark red layers and looked good effect

So may work on other colours if used same colour wash

Looks good, very nice and neat, especially for your first minis.

I'll second the idea of washing blue with blue, it does add depth (Although you may want to re-apply the original blue on some raised edges afterwards to add highlights).

If you want the thread moved, PM a Mod and they'll move it for you.

Welcome to Dakka!

Looks great for your first time! Very neat and clean. I imagine you'll be able to learn layering and highlighting with ease as you progress.

Looking nice. A blue wash would go well with the armour. Then add some after wash highlighting to make the armour pop.

Maybe add a few more thin layers of the red. It looks a little patchy in some areas (beakie marine)

Also not necessary but some highlighting to the eyes of the helmet marines could be done. i.e. a small dab of a lighter red followed by a spec or two of white/bright red to suggest a light source causing a glint etc. Would look nice.

Thanks for the comments.
I feel I still need a lot of practice before thinking of highlighting the eyes, it's already hard enough to just keep the paint inside the optics

It may help to paint the eyes before you paint the helmet, so if any mistakes are made they can be cleaned up easily
