Yeah, so this was a light novel, and those are games right?
Yeah so to anyone who hasn't seen this it's a very realistic (still played up) portrayal of intense social anxiety.
The show has one glaring problem
In the light novel/ game it was mainly dark comedy, surrounding Tomoko and her social anxiety. You could still laugh because you knew next to nothing of the character.
In the Anime though, they show how pitiful she is as a character, how hard she tries, making the show much more character based, and turn her anxiety up to 11. And she gets beaten at every turn, has sad moment after sad moment reminding her how life was like before she developed this, and wins at nothing. Making no progress.
And to top it off you're expected to laugh.
In a show with an intense character focus you need to have the characters make progress.
I've heard it's funny to people who have social anxiety but it's something I never went through.
Every year of high school I added 6-10 contacts to my phone, and if I ever wanted a date I had one within the day.
This game and show...
Just comes off as horrifically mean spirited.
Jesus, I sobbed up when she watched the meteor shower alone. Christ you just want to hug this girl.
Thoughts?
How do people find this funny?

Finally found my quote from a gym buddy born and raised in South Korea:
"It is the soldier, not the reporter who has given us the freedom of the press.
"It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us the freedom of speech.
"It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who gives us the freedom to demonstrate.
"It is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag."

There's an anime thread in off-topic already if I'm not mistaken but yeah I know a little bit of your show.

It's not even a genre.
It's a medium.
There's like 1 good thing from Japan every year that needs a thread. And this is certainly worthy of conversation.
This is more of a dissection, than anything else.
If you know something say it.

Literally the last 3 episodes are sad gak. ALL DAY. EVERY DAY. They don't attempt to be funny it appears.
There's even a character introduced who's basically the in verse version of the normal viewer, who tries to help her enjoy some stupid festival.
The first 9 had some funny things here and there.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
This is not a comedy.
This is a tragedy.
Things are framed as getting progressively worse.

Nothing?
This should probably be moved to OT.

I don't know what you're trying to say, but I'm on episode 13 of Attack on Titan and liking it.

"So, do please come along when we're promoting something new and need photos for the facebook page or to send to our regional manager, do please engage in our gaming when we're pushing something specific hard and need to get the little kiddies drifting past to want to come in an see what all the fuss is about. But otherwise, stay the feth out, you smelly, antisocial bastards, because we're scared you are going to say something that goes against our mantra of absolute devotion to the corporate motherland and we actually perceive any of you who've been gaming more than a year to be a hostile entity as you've been exposed to the internet and 'dangerous ideas'.
