Decided to finally get off my butt and get some pictures posted!

I've always wanted to do an army-wide diorama between the Necrons and Sisters of Battle. So in painting up my Necrons, I decided to add some elements of the diorama to the bases. Scarabs come to mind easily and have a big base so I thought to try them out first. So here are some photos of my first scarab done.

It's my first time trying anything freehand. It's pretty crude I'd say, and the lines are thick and not well cleaned up. Also, it's flat and doesn't have that 3D effect. More research and practice needs to be done I suppose! Also, I've been thinking about making a light box and getting a proper camera but have been too busy painting to get those done so please bear with the natural lit and ipad photos for now. :/

Supposed to get the rest of the scarabs done too. Hope I can post them soon!

Managed to paint up 2 more bases as scarabs are pretty easy. The painting is tabletop quality I suppose. I liked having some character to the bases for the scarabs.. Also, I could make more scarab bases. It's a bit of a silly thing that scarabs can't be bought separately.

Have two more to go! Then to the other stuff for this months painting pledge.

The fun thing about having two opposing armies must be the opportunity to take cool shots like this. Although ill never have an uber allied list, at least this is more fun.

Finally the scarabs are complete! There's actually one more base but I'm having problems with it so I guess this is it.

Scarabs are pretty interesting to do up as there are so many possibilities how their bases can be done. Although I'm really out of ideas for now. :p needs more brainstorming.

As for painting, these have also helped me experiment with different colours for my Sisters future tanks. And also, appreciate how thin, multiple coats of red work way better than one thick coat.

Say "cheese" guys! Family photo!

The scarabs using cutting 'beams' to slice up the armor is really cool and very creative! I don't think I've ever seen that before, and it's so appropriate and simple that it seems obvious in retrospect.

Thanks for the kind comment! I'm motivated to do up more scarabs now. Waiting for more 40mm bases which I have ordered.

Thanks! Actually they are just paper clips stuck into drill holes. The cuts were made with a sprue cutter. They were quite fun to make so I may do it again on another model but perhaps a different scene.

I had a blast painting these necron warriors. I experimented with Armypainter silver primer and also, learnt how to highlight black weapons and stuff. The blending was also pretty fun to do but it doesn't show up well in this light. I managed to find red rods (finally!) and here they are. Pew pew pew!

I posed they with their weapons pointing forward to give them a more menacing look. It has some unintended but still funny effects like the next picture. Also, a friend suggested keeping the sand silver. It's almost like this scene from Terminator, where the robots are just walking over the metallic debris of other dead robots.

I like this next one. The guy in the centre seems to be going. "My gauss flamer is jammed again?? Dammit...."

"Sister Emily, I told you we should have turned left at that junction back there....."

Sorry for the poor photos again. It's still an ipad and room lighting. Gotta get a light box......

Thanks MrFlutterPie! Here are some more of those I've completed. The Catacomb Command Barge!

It's a model with hot debates on it ranging from joining units, getting invuln saves and armour saves etc but other than that, it is a really nice model. I had fun building it and magnetising it for conversion between CCB and ABarge.

I went with the red colour scheme and used glazes liberally. I guess I am satisfied with the result. I tried the glowing engine effect but perhaps either my brush was too big or my paints weren't watered down enough, it looks a bit messy up close.

Ive also gotten a slightly better camera but lighting is still poor. :p Hence the blurriness due to shutter speeds slower that 1/60.

I had a lot of fun painting the instrument panel. It really is quite nicely designed and allows a beginner painter to achieve great looking effects!

And finally, my camera-shy Overlord, avoiding the papparazi.

I would have liked to include my Sisters in a battle scene but I'm a bit embarassed because I did my SoB when I restarted painting and they were done with the Armypainter dip. Towards the end of the dipping, I didn't realise that the dip consistency changed so the last few were very splotchy. Someday I should redo all of them. Good thing about metals.

Finished Sister models are so rare as is. I am sure people won't mind a bit of splotchyness

I. Love. This.

I will eventually be starting my own Necron army and wanted to do a red color scheme. You, sir, nailed it.

Thanks for the encouragement everyone!

I got the red rods by ordering from the Plastruct website. There were the 3/32 inch sizes which is very close to the original green rods. I had to order a few packs to make the minimum order and I used less than 1 pack for all the warriors seen here (used 2 sticks of 25cm each). I think 1 pack of 8 rods can easily replace 100 warriors.

I'm working on some flayed ones now. They are a rare unit to see because they are over shadowed by other better units in the codex. But I believe they can be fun to have in an army as well. And the next picture I hope to get a battle scene as well. Time for the Order of the Bloody Rose to make a proper appearance. Hope to get them up this week!

OH-I Wanna get out of here

Wasn't sold on the colors from the scarabs, but the warriors and Overlord have really sold me on it. Keep it up!

Also, you might get more traffic in P&M blogs, if you are going to keep a progress log going. Hit the yellow triangle to ask a mod to move if you are interested.

Thank you guys! I've got something special coming up. Not in terms of painting but I hope to make this thread more exciting. And I hope you guys will like it.

And thanks for the suggestion. It has more or less become my PM blog so I should ask to be transferred there. After the next update! In a few more minutes!

On another part of the battlefield, a high pitch whine of tortured machinery could be heard, punctuated by sudden crackling, as red lightning arcs lit up the sky.

Its mass belied it's agility, as it rounded a corner, seeking it's prey. The pilot and gunner, interlinked in their mesh of Living Metal, communicated through soundless gestures, like the undead that they are, with only a small spark of consciousness.

Sister Superior Sophia looked out from the scant ruins which was their cover. The continuous tesla arcs have them pinned and unable to retreat. The options are limited.....

"It's time. Safety off and melta to the front. Once it's in range, I want everyone to lay down suppressive fire. Sister Verity, you have one shot, make it count."

And as they lay hidden, hearts pounding, another unknown threat arose from behind them.....

Next up, Flayed Ones.

I got a batch of the old metal flayed ones because I didn"t really relish working with the newer finecast ones, even if the sculpt did look better and more menacing. I had the feeling they would end up looking like necrons who forgot to cut their nails, as finecast has this thing about going all bendy after a while.

There were rather challenging as it is difficult to tell the difference between the "skin" and metallic parts but I soon got the hang of it. I had wanted to work in my red colour scheme but it wasnt really possible unless they got red claws. But then again, according to the fluff, they don't really belong to a particular dynasty. They just appear where battle rages, to claim their trophy of skin. So I figured, human skin would be the correct one as they were up against the Battle Sisters.

Without further ado, the continuation....

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The scent of battle and the smell of fresh blood have awakened the raveners. Seemingly out of nowhere, broken bodies crept onto the battlefield. The rancid smell of uncured skin and blood permeated the air around the Flayed Ones, but the air, ionized by the tesla, covered it with a sheet of metallic tinge.

Unknown to the squad, the tortured figures came through the cracks in the wall. It was only when the screams of those who had fallen tore through the chaos of the battle, did Sister Superior Sophia realise their peril.

Before long, the floor of the dingy hovel was littered with lifeless bodies of the brave sisters caught unawares by the initial assault. The Sisters fought bravely, but they were surrounded and Flayed Ones came from all sides.

With the sun high up in the air, the smell of fresh blood mixed with the putrid stench of the necrons gave rise to a miasma which assailed the senses. With no time to grieve for her fallen comrades, Sister Superior Sophia drew her power sword and charged into the fray. The deep gashes in her power armour and the telltale stickiness of it told volumes about the mortal wound she had sustained but she raged on, chanting litanies and moving by sheer faith alone.

Will there be no hope for the valiant squad? Find out in the next episode.....

Very nicely painted models there in all the images

Aye red scheme works well (as do that myself for my Necron army) if want red bars, try looking on Ebay, where I got my 60 from when first got battle force long time back.

Wow real Sisters of battle models? thought they were only myth lol nice flayed ones, long time since seen the metal version of them. heard they were heavily nerfed in rules, but after seeing these, I may get a pack
