Another game for the Orks in 7th, game 5, 1500 points, orks vs. ultrasmurfs:
The Ork Army – Battlewagon Bash:

KFF Mek
KFF Mek
20 shootas with PK BP Nob
20 shootas with PK BP Nob
Deff Dread, 2 BS
Deff Dread, 2 Skorchas, Plates ‘n’ Riggers.

Battlewagon, Red, Rolla, 2 BS
Battlewagon, ‘Ard Case, Killkannon, 3 BS, ram
Battlewagon, ‘Ard Case, Supakannon, 2 BS
Battlewagon, Kannon, Rokkit Launcha
7 Lootas

The Space marine Army, Roughly:

Chapter master with shield eternum, artificer armour and the burning blade
Chief Librarian Tigurius
10 marines with a lascannon and a flamer
10 marines with a lascannon and a flamer
5 devastators with 4 rocket launchers
10 veteran vanguard with a relic blade, one pair of lightning claws, a thunderhammer and jump packs.
Stormtalon Gunship
Stormtalon Gunship

We played maelstrom of war, number 5(?) where you get extra tactical objectives for holding the objectives. Orks deployed first in a line, space marines formed a line opposite, failed to steal the initiative. The boys deploy in the rolla wagons, Meks in the ‘ard cased wagons, lootas in the kannon wagon.

Orks first turn sees the shoota wagons roll forward, the rest roll a bit slower to get better lines of fire, the loota wagon doesn’t move. The orks first salvo of shots sees the killkannon scatter and only kill 2 marines from one of the lascannon half-squads, and the supa kannon miss entirely. Lootas roll well and kill a few other marines, boys roll well but the marines make their saves, for the best part. Ork turn one ends with 6 marines dying, 2 from each squad of 5 that I shot at. None of them run off, and orks don’t achieve their objective to kill an enemy turn in shooting.

Space marine turn 1 sees the veterans move carelessly forward, keeping the artificer matey at the front to tank the hits. Lascannons bounce pitifully from the great war machines of the orks, but the veterans charge the front boy-wagon and, after tanking the overwatch, successfully glance it to death – hooray, no explosion!. Tigurius got a perils, rolled a six, failed his test, The Fist of Mork materialised behind him and dragged him into the warp. Then the rulebook was consulted and Mork was forced to put Tigurius back onto the table, albeit a bit squashed.
Marines get first blood, 1:0 to them.

Ork turn 2 sees 2 new objectives for me – kill a whole squad this turn and capture a distant objective. Battlewagons move forward, the vanguard are surrounded, skorched by a dread, peppered with shoota fire, whittled down to just 7 and a chapter master with one wound. Both the killkannon and the Supakannon miss the bunched-up veterans and hit the exact same place just to the left of them. We agree to put a crater there, and I take mental note to alter the calibration on my Meks mechanical targeting eye fing. One lascannon half-squad is killed, and another devastator dies, but they don’t run. Both dreads charge the vanguard but one fails, and the shootas pile in there too, 2 dying to dangerous terrain as they charge dramatically over the flaming wreckage of their battlewagon. The Chapter master blows up the dread with a lucky S7 AP2 hit, the squad leader kills the nob in the challenge (aww) and the boys then kill the entire squad… …talk about good luck!
Orks get D3 for killing 3 units in a turn and roll a 2, one for killing a unit in the shooting phase and discard the objective requiring them to climb a 24” tall tower.
3:1 to da Orks!

Marine turn 2 sees both Stormtalons arrive, take shots at battlewagons but bounce off kustom force-fields. The lascannon blows up the second boys wagon, killing a whopping 9 of the boys inside (After I made 5 saves, somehow!). boys remain fearless ‘til a sneaky flamer hits them from the side, killing one.

Ork Turn 3 sees more generic wagon shuffling to get line of sight and stay in KFF cover. Boys go for Tigurius and co. and kill one with shooting. This turn I got the objectives to get number 4 (gottit), control twice as many objectives as my opponent (done) and to have 3 of my scoring units and none of his in my deployment zone. Good job zooming fliers aren’t scoring! Orks do some shooting, dread goes for the sneaky flankers and kills them, claiming the ruins they were in as his own by consolidating into them. The Killkannon wagon kills another of the lascannon squad, but the lone lascannon stays put. Space marines now have a lascannon, 2 missiles, Tigurius, 5 maines on the flank and 2 Stormtalons. Orks still have 3 Wagons running, but the boys are running out…
Orks roll 3 and 2 for their D3 objectives, scoring a total of 6 this turn.
9:1 to da boyz!

Ultrasmurf Turn 4 makes the Stormtalons fly off the board. Lascannon tries and fails. More sneaky marines creep past the deff dread’s building and run toward the objective held tenuously by my Supakannon wagon. Tigurius kills some more orks with psychic shenanigans.

Ork Turn 4. Orks have to get objective 3, kill the warlord and manifest a psychic power. Deff Dread Hears someone running across his lawn, comes running out of his newly acquired house to literally cut them in half (damn GW glue). He consolidates back into his house. 4 boys manage to kill off the last devastator, leaving Tigurius alone. The Killkannon wagon rolls onto objective 3, and guns down the last lascannon marine.
Orks get a point for having objective 3.
10:1 to the orks.

SM Turn 4. Stormtalons re-emerge and wreck the killkannon wagon with my warlord inside. Tigurius suffers another wound from perils but successfully kills off the last of the boys.

Ork turn 5. Supakannon finally hits something, namely Tigurius. He saves it with 2+ cover (Damn ye shrouding!) the snapshooting big shootas get 1 wound through and kill him, though. The orks will never know the difference. Lootas fluff and only make the Stormtalon jink. Deff dread kills the last fleeing marines in his house, and sweeps them roughly under the mat.
Orks get 3 for the tactical objective and 1 normal for slaying the warlord. Great success.
14:1 to da orks!

Marines turn 5, Stormtalons kill the big Mek. One flat-outs behind a building.
Marines get slay the warlord.
14:2 to the orks!

Ork turn 6 sees a Stormtalon die.

SM turn 6 sees the other Stormtalon fail.

Ork turn 7 (yes we kept playing!) sees me fail to kill the Stormtalon

SM Turn 7 sees the Stormtalon fail to kill a battlewagon.

End game, orks have linebreaker.

15:2 to the Orks, still undefeated in 7th!

Next time I have a game I’ll try to take pictures for the Battle Report, so you can see how it’s all looking.

Why did the Tacticals bring lascannons against orcs?

Probably just to help pop open wagons. Though those 40 points would probably have been better spent on the Stormtalons. Were his flyers running bare or did they have upgrades?

Cool batrep though! I can just imagine all those Orks ripping stuff up!

Gets along better with animals... Go figure.

It was take all comers, his stormtalons had assault cannons and skyhammer missiles. they went for the side armour of the wagons and did a pretty decent job of it. needing AP2 to blow up a closed-topped vehicle is huge now, he was getting penetrating hits through on them but always shaken & stunned results. had to just chip away the hull points.

As to why they brought lascannons, even if it was a pre-decided game, I'd think lascannons would be a rather good choice against an army of 5 battlewagons and 2 dreadnaughts (that's all that was on the field). as it is, he said he was TAC, and I think my list was, for the best part, TAC too. I'd certainly enjoy a game with it against anyone!

Also as the guy who lost i'l just say this to any marines players listening, take transports other wise you wont be able to get to the (tactical?)objectives fast enough, after turn 1 mistakes all I could do is order my guys to just kill and kill they did, 2 waggons and deffdread left after the smoke cleared.

the list I brought was supposed to be take all comers as with some blokes but I'm sure the big ap3 pie plate was because he knew it was marines, that was why he mentioned his list was "best part" TAC but as you can see that was the only weapon to fail each and every time lol

All in all I enjoyed the game though, taught me to make sure I use the vanguard vets as a counter attacking force rather than blunt force every time.

I play them regularly and all I can say is never ever underestimate them, under the cool smiley friendly exterior of an Ork player is a sly and treacherous competitive grot with a zap gun pointed in your face!

Marines struggle to kill the Orks as target priority can get hazy with your guns but Orks don't like vanguard vets(usually) as they can charge 1-3 large squads of boys and a waggon without penalty and kill enough to break the fearlessness of the orks and win by extreme combat res overrunning all(usually......well its gone completely to plan perfectly a couple of times lol)

Hettar, I brought pieplates because, as I've lamented to you several times in previous games, "I wish I'd brought a pieplate". If I were tailoring against you, I'd have brought 6 boomwagons and still had 900 points to play with.

I said my list was only TAC "for the best part" as I had expected it to struggle against fliers. I also knew you'd bring fliers, as you always bring fliers, so again, tailoring would have had 3 dakkajets coming along too. still leaving 500 points for two HQ's and 4 troops.

I just wanted to play with my battlewagons!

still stand by that you were/are over reliant on your vanguard veterans. they usually get one good charge and then are chipped away rather quickly. or they fail a 3" charge and you concede in the first turn
