So I started playing menoth when the 2 player box was new, fell out of it for a while but now im trying to get back into it, some of these models I already have, some I'm thinking of getting, any thoughts?

High Executioner Servath Reznik
-Crusader
-Scourge of Heresy
Choir of Menoth (Leader and 5 Grunts)
Herne & Jonne
Horgenhold Forge Guard (Leader and 5 Grunts)
-Attendant Priest
Initiate Tristan Durant
-Templar
Vassal of Menoth

I have half a mind to kill you, and the other half agrees

Hmm... I think it needs a little work. I'd be interested in knowing which models you have, and which you're thinking of getting, so I can give you some pointers about using the things you already have, and what to get that works with them.

Currently, I think your biggest problem is that the entire list is quite slow with lowish threat ranges, and outside of the Templar doesn't have much staying power, and outside of Herne & Jonne doesn't have much ranged power. The list has a *lot* of hitting power, of course, but without being able to deliver it that effectively, you'll probably have issues.

Firstly, jack choice. The Crusader is an OK jack, if you have some way of increasing his threat range or if you're using a theme force that makes him cheaper. However, without a way of speeding him up, you'll really feel the SPD4/no reach, which gives him a very very small impact on the battlefield, unless you have a great tarpit to effectively deliver him, and Forge Guard are big hitters, but not great tarpits.

Scourge of Heresy also has this problem, with the addition that he's very expensive for what he does. Arcane Vortex is nice, but at the same time most things in your list can become untargetable by spells and Reznik has Witch Hound which offers a fair bit of protection from magic attacks as well, so Arcane Vortex is generally un-needed.

The Templar, meanwhile, is a nice jack that at least has reach and beatback, allowing it a much bigger effect on the game, but while it's extremely tough with Tristan Durant (ARM23!), the biggest threat to him would be someone just killing Tristan, causing the jack to instantly shut down for at least a turn. Because you have nothing that helps Tristan stay alive, and he'll have to be pretty far forward to keep giving the Templar focus... well, lets just say that Templar has essentially ARM15 and 5hp.

Tristan needs either a long ranged jack (The Redeemer), something independant (the Sanctifier) or have some way of staying alive while up front (Use with Harbinger/The High Reclaimer). Otherwise he's a liability more than an asset.

So here's what I'd recommend. Put the Templar on Reznik, along with a Reckoner - that gives you a tough beatback jack, and a very fast jack with ranged potential, and either one is brilliant with Iron Agression. Tristan, if you're going to use him in this list, could have a Redeemer on him (though that overlaps with Herne & Jonne's niche a bit), or a Vanquisher.

The Forge Guard are great in a lot of lists, but they tend to be second wave hitters rather than front line infantry. In a larger game where you can run them behind a second unit, or where you have some way of increasing their charge range, defintely, but generally you'll want some unit that can take a punch better, or deliver it first. Temple Flameguard, Errants or Zealots are all great options in-faction, while Steelhead Halberdiers are a Merc option (and if you like them, look into Rezniks alternative Theme force "knocking on Heaven's Door").

The Choir - you generally only need a min choir as well - 4 choir members will cover 3 jacks easily enough. The extra point saved would be well worth putting into getting Wracks to give Reznik some extra focus support.

Anyway, just a few thoughts All the pieces are situationally good, and will work in various lists, but just lack a few factors when all put together. Hope it all helps, and welcome to Menoth

well a few things, I did forget about vassals so I should have added 2 of those lol! and off the top of my head I have:

durant
vanquisher (was going to convert to scourge)
crusader
repenter (thinking of converting to vigilant for durant)
judicator
vassal of menoth

how about something more like this:

High Executioner Servath Reznik
-Scourge of Heresy
-Templar
-Hierophant
Horgenhold Forge Guard (Leader and 5 Grunts)
-Attendant Priest
Initiate Tristan Durant
-Vigilant
-Vigilant
Vassal of Menoth
Choir of Menoth (Leader and 3 Grunts)

Alright, for the moment, might I suggest something of the following. Firstly, keep the Vanquisher as a vanquisher just for the moment - leave Scourge until 50pt games, and the Vanquisher will come in handy for this list, giving it a bit more ranged and anti-infantry power.

Secondly, instead of a Heriophant, take Wracks - yes, the Heirophant also increases spell range a little, but saving a point is worth a fair bit - and fits in with Reznik thematically too

Now, the Vigilants - one can work as an objective grabber with Durant, but two is definitely too many. Honestly, I'd either take a Redeemer with him, or a Repenter and Vigilant combo at the very least. If a Redeemer, which would be highly recommended to help put some damage on fast or ranged infantry that'll be trying to kill your forgeguard, that'd give you 2 extra points as well, which would allow you to have the points to max out your forgeguard.

So how about a list that looks something like this:

High Executioner Servath Reznik (*6pts)
* Templar (8pts)
* Vanquisher (8pts)
Choir of Menoth (Leader and 3 Grunts) (2pts)
Horgenhold Forge Guard (Leader and 9 Grunts) (8pts)
* Attendant Priest (2pts)
Initiate Tristan Durant (3pts)
* Redeemer (6pts)
The Wrack (3 wracks) (1pts)
Vassal Mechanik (1pts)
Vassal of Menoth (2pts)

You could also replace the Mechanik and Wracks with a Heirophant if you wanted - the Mechanik is mostly just as a 1pt filler in this case, but he can be situationally useful.

well, this is more of models I actually own (in red) so what about this? I have a fairly good feeling about this.

High Executioner Servath Reznik
-Crusader
-Vanquisher

Choir of Menoth (Leader and 3 Grunts)
Herne & Jonne
Horgenhold Forge Guard (Leader and 5 Grunts)
-Attendant Priest
Initiate Tristan Durant
-Repenter
-Vigilant
The Wrack (3 wracks)
Vassal Mechanik
Vassal of Menoth

Well, it's not fully optimized, but it'll work It's got some anti infantry in the Vanquisher+Vassal, Herne and Jonne, and the Repenter, anti-heavy armour in the Forge Guard, Crusader and Reznik himself, and the Vigilant will be a solid objective grabber as long as you keep Tristan safe. The only thing the army really lacks is some speed, so expect to have a bit of a rough time against ranged heavy armies, but otherwise I think you'll do alright. I'd consider dropping the Mechanik and maybe Attendant Priest in order to bring the forge-guard up to max - the extra bodies are probably worth more than the Priests abilities most of the time.

When you move up to 50pts, I'd make that Crusader into a Templar or Reckoner, and get a fast tarpit of some description (Zealots, TFG, and maybe Daughters of the Flame), and include a few extra solos - merc solos would work well, like Rhupert, Gorman or Eyriss if you wanted more cross over with a merc list.

Anyway, give it a go, and see how you do - and good luck
