This is my first 40k list at this point scale, having only played with 500pts with mostly borrowed minis. Since I am inexperienced I would like some feedback about it before I start purchasing it. It's for a casual setting, so I just want something that is at least viable.

-Carapace armor
-Tactical autoreliquary
-Krak Grenades
-Officer of the Fleet
-Regiment Banner
-2 vets with plasma gun
-Medipack
-regimental banner

I don't think this is a legal setup. You only have 5 models in the CCS, 4 of which can take special equipment OR upgrade weapons. So you could have 2 plasma and an Autocannon, 2 plasma, the Banner and medipack, or the Autocannon, Banner and medipack.

Personally, I'd go with the banner, and maybe an Autocannon/Lascannon. The CCS don't want to be playing aggressively as they will easily give up a Slay the Warlord point if you leave them exposed. The banner is essential to keep the guys in line without the Commissars blowing them away. The Autocannon allows them to reach out and hurt something while hanging back, which is always good. The medipack is probably not worth it given the low toughness of Guardsmen and the fact you'll want to keep them hidden as much as possible anyway.

These guys are fine, but it might be worth throwing an Astropath into your CCS just to give you the extra power/deny dice. For the points, it's a cheap way of upping your potential. It's worth noting that against really psychic-heavy armies (only really Demons, GK and some Eldar armies), these guys lack the power to effectively cast or counter, so if you know you're facing one of those, it might be worth dropping them and spending the points elsewhere. Other than that, they're very useful.

Looks good, but personally, I'd drop the Kraks and give each squad a Lascannon; better to have a weapon you can fire at 48" from T1 than some grenades you're very unlikely to use. The plasma and Commissar are fine.

I'd give the CCS 4 flamers and keep them hanging back to deliver orders, and drop 4 flamers on anything they gets through your lines. It will put down enough wounds to burn up anything from a horde of Orks to a Space Marine Terminator squad.

Personally, I'd drop the Demolitions on these guys. You're only using it to charge tanks, and if 3 point-blank melta shots haven't done it, then the chances are things have already gone badly. It's nice if you have the points, but far from essential.

Heavy Support
- Hydra (for some minimal anti-air)
- 2x Leman Russ Battletanks
- Leman Russ Vanquisher

The Hydra is fine, but I'd reconsider the Russes. The Vanquisher is an awesome tank, but to get the most out of it, you'll want to put a Lascannon and Plasma Cannons on it. At that point, it can put out a whole bunch of AP2 firepower at great range. The Battle Tanks are, in my opinion, too generalist, you'd be better off with something specialised; maybe a pair of 3xHB Exterminators for tearing up infantry and light armour.

Inquisition

HQ
Ordo Xenos Inquisitor
-Psyker
-Power Sword
-Liber Heresius

Seems good, I assume he's going with the Platoon squad? If so, you might want to give him Rad Grenades if you can find the points, as they very much level the playing field and make charging the blob a lot more dangerous.

Henchmen
-3x Crusaders
-4x Death Cult
-Chimera
(I already have the Death Cult and Crusaders so I would like to have it on my army if it's viable having them in)

The DCA/Crusader combo is a very good one, but I wouldn't give them a Chimera. Keep them back behind your lines and use them to counter-charge anything that comes through. Failing that, you might want a couple more DCA and an extra Crusader, I find a 4C:6DCA setup works really well.

Hope that helps, and doesn't sound too critical. There's a good core of a list here with a few tweaks.

Looks pretty decent although I'm not sold on the Hydra.. There might be other Leman Russ types that would do you more good than the battle tank, too, but it depends on what your opponents play etc.

Model-wise it looks good; with Guard you can't go wrong with getting more guys and some tanks

Oh ok, I must have misunderstood. Then I will take the Autocannon and banner

Will take note the flamer part, the reason why I didn't take an autocanon and took the grenades and demolitions was just to save me some money by avoiding buying more stuff.

Will take note, though I wanted to tale at least a single vanilla Leman Russ just because how emblematic they are

Yes that's the plan

I was a bit nervous about these guys since a real person I know said that I should take melee guys in a ranged army like IG and that these guys would be too fragile as well, however since I am taking Inq I would really want to take some actual Inq pieces besides the Inquisitor. I will do as you said and abandon the chimera

It helped me a lot, since this is my first serious list, I was a bit nervous about making a major mistake. So don't worry about sounding to critical, it's exactly that I want.

Won't leaving the Hydra out leave a huge vulnerability in my build if the opponent has fliers?

To be honest, I think if you're looking to spend a bit less, rather than ploughing on upgrades, you might be better off just building a smaller list. A lot of people still play around 1500, so there's no requirement to go all-in from the start.

If you're taking the Vanilla Russ, then leave the Sponsons off, and put it on duty hunting Marines/other 3+ units first, that's where it will do most of its damage. I agree, it's an awesome tank.

As to leaving the Hydra out, you're right in that it will leave you open to enemy aircraft. A way around this would be to take an ADL with a Quad-gun; it shoots just like a hydra, but also gives your platoon and maybe the Russes a 4+ cover save.

The reason why I am going to 1850 is because the "40k gang" in my town only meets up around once per month in the store and they do casual tournaments at 1850.

Fair enough. In that case, you might as well keep the upgrades. I mean, there's nothing stopping you swapping out for 'better' options later on.
