hi all,

my first post!

i have just gotten back into the hobby after a good 7 or 8 years. a couple of my mates are playing so i bought myself the necron battleforce and a AB/CCB so far.

whats a good configuration for 750 points? right now im using the above as the following:

Overlord with - res orb and gauntlet of flame

9 warriors in the GA

10 warriors - overlord goes here

AB with the tesla cannon

5 deathmarks

4 scarab swarms

all up this is around 750 or round about.

C&C would be very welcome - i play against eldar, drak eldar and grey knights mostly. sometimes there are tau

ps some advice on upping it to 1k would be gratefully recieved - im thinking some wraiths and szelas (cause he looks like fun and has a cool model)

As I have not played a game with Necrons, I have studied the Codex, forums, and army lists like crazy. I have also bought exactly what you have. I have learned that a resurrection orb on a 10-model unit is not point-efficient and the GoF is not as good as a Warscythe.

I will run:
Overlord (Res orb, scythe, Sempiternal weave)
20 Warriors
5 Warriors in GA
5 Scarabs
1 AB w/ TC

Total: 750pts

P.S. You can buy 5 Immortal legs and use the rest of the bits from the DMs to get both sets.

Welcome fellow Cron brothers!

The battleforce plus AB is an excellent basis for a Necron list. Of the two, @Shadow is the one I'd pick, as at 750pts or so a blob of 20 warriors with orb and GA support is very, very difficult to stop.

I'd suggest a couple of options for you to consider.

1) Put the Overlord onto the CCB, using points saved from the AB and if necessary trimming the warrior blob.

2) Try and get MSS on the overlord. MSS is really handy as it functions like an invul save if it works.

3) Don't forget that for 20pts you can give the overlord Phaeron. This will make the blob relentless so you can move up, rapid fire, then assault. Against the right units, that makes a huge difference.

4) Scarabs are not only the vehicle killers of choice, but also excellent tarpits. I have not yet lost an entire blob with orb and GA support to shooting, but have lost a few to assault. So, use the scarabs to tie up incoming assault units.

5) As ShadowLord has said, you can get both deathmarks and immortals, with the addition of some extra legs and chests. However, if you have the cash, get another warrior box because you can use warrior legs and chests (with a little trimming) to make the deathmarks, then use some more of the warrior bits to make crypteks, plus you'dd get 3 scarab bases for free.

6) When expanding , think crypteks. If you can get deathmark heads, you can easily kitbash crypteks out of warrior bodies. All that is necessary is to hunch them over a bit more, then give them unique backs and cobble up wierd looking staffs. Literally anything you think looks cool will do. I used bits out of the lychguard/praetorian box (that box is a gold mine of extra bitz - it's pricey, but almost worth it just for savings from buying GW crypteks/lords).

7) Before you buy anything else, get another AB. This gives you an extra overlord (kitbashed to Lord if you want) plus will let you run CCB and AB at 1000pts.

hth

Good points, I didn't think about the Phaeron. With the chariot idea, I would think that you would do that with the second one, so that until you get it you can still have your Overlord w/ the Res orb in the blob. Other than that, I agree with everything else.

I tried this list out last night and it worked out amazing!? Thank you all who put the effort into creating this list and revising it, i did a little small changes just for the models i had available. I played a 1500pt game agaisnt my friends AM, he used 2 russ 1 chim 1 platoon and a couple veteren squads.

My list compiled of:

Overlord - Res Orb, Phase Shifter, Semp Weave, staff of light

Overlord - ResOrb, Tachyon Arrow (Only choosen fo if the Dice Gods are in my favor they will let me S10 ap1 KILL them russ')

20 - Warriors (With HQ)
10 - Imortals (Guass Blasters)

4 - Wraiths (All Whips)

1 - Annihilation Barge - TC

1 - Triarch Stalker (Heavy Guass)

1 - Doomsday Ark

1 - Monolith

Firstly i wanted to say im now to the lore of crons so beg my aprd if something isnt as efficent as it could be. Socondly i just wanted to say im in love with my monolith it has never done me wrong except cost 200pts and twice hasnt shown up untill turn 4...... BUT 14 armour all around plus living metal, If he can reserve roll in on second turn its a huge line of sight problem plus he HAS to take it down before anything else in my army. Plus an added benefit is the Monolith cause a giant wall or oblisk that can shield my 20 warriors at least another 6" to 12"

Haven't posted much on Dakka and also again this is my available models to play.
Thanks!

How well did your DDA fair. I really like them, but people frown on them. Just want to know if I can eventually buy one. Thanks!

@Shadow, you can magnetise a GA to convert to a DA. It is a bit fiddly, but possible.

My experience with magnetising it is in this article

Thank you, this really helps. I already built my GA, but I didn't put the warriors in on purpose. I don't like the way they look inside. Besides, I used plastic on the frame to add legs...10 more warriors! I also did not glue on the front part of the hull so that I could magnetize it later (this site helped as I didn't know how). This means I can inset the cannon, but the ribs are pointing up, which looks better anyway, imo. Have you ran a DDA? If so, how did it do?

DDA are very situational. They work awesomely well if you pair with a stalker, so you end up with a primarily shooty list - which isn't a bad thing.

They need to be bubble wrapped so they don't have to move, but having said that, the effect, especially TL on a parking lot, is awesome.

Generally though, a lot of people will say that a Doom Scythe is better - I don't necessarily agree as I think that the uncertainty of reserves can put you at a real disadvantage.

Overall, I'd say if you were going to do it, take a couple of them and stalkers - go hard or go home

Could you give a site where you get the magnets?

I'm in Oz, so my sites won't ship to US normally - and anyway I'm sure you can get them waayyy cheaper there.

I use 1mm deep by 2 or 3mm wide disc neodymium magnets, normally N48 but N52 is better if you can get it.

For the GA a couple of bigger magnets, say 5mm cube or cylinders would be helpful.
