So, I just got 3 of the new Militarum Tempestus sets, (the one with 1 commissar, 25 scions, 2 Taurox's, 1 valk) and I feel like a kid on Christmas!
I also got some wheels off ebay, from Poland, for a half-track conversion. My point in all of this, is, i've been playing 40k for years, and have never been this excited before, does anyone else
have an army they were the "most" stoked for picking up?

I suppose for me this would have to be the Grey Knights. I was able to buy the whole army in one go just after the new plastics came out, and was blown away by the quality of the models. The sheer number of options and the detail was amazing.

Yeah, GK got some awesome new models, not too keen on the Dreadknight, but it's one of the few armies where metallic paints look AMAZING! How are you liking them in 7th so far?

I haven't actually managed to play with them in a while, I've been too focused on IG and SM recently. That said, I think there's some fun to be had now that they're battle brothers rather than allies-of-convenience with the other Imperial factions.

The Daemon Possessing Fulgrim's Body
|
My daemons, I didn't buy them in one go, I couldn't in all reality, but I started back in Oct 2012, before the current book.
I'm keen not to reward GW with cash for things that don't warrant it, so my main focus is to use non-GW models as much as possible.
When I started to research what was out there, and began to realise that there were all these awesome models out there, and that I could justify their purchase because I could use them in game, it was a pretty exciting time , and I continue to enthusiastically seek out new and unusual models from small studios, which is a mini hobby in itself.

That's pretty cool, yeah, some of their models are really dated(every greater demon) and I've seen some cool bloodthirster alternates out there for sure. Yeah, why they weren't battle brothers to begin with is beyond me. Maybe for SW, and DA, sure, allies of convenience, but not everyone.

Resolute Ultramarine Honor Guard

I'm an addict. So the most exciting army for me is the next one. However, if I had to pick one, it'd be my Guardians of the Covenant "Ravenwing" (white scars) force.
I bought 30+ well painted bikes right at the end of 5th, when bikes were weak. Then 6th hit, then DA codex, then starter set. I cheaply got a hold of 1 ravenwing box, bought 10 starter set bikes, and using the 20 some plasma guns I had laying around, converted up 15 black knights (used warhammer chaos warrior hammers as corvus hammer, identical). Then a bike chapter master and an excellent counts as Sammuel all fell in my lap. All told, $400 total, I've got 40 bikes, 6 assault bikes, 5 speeders, and libby, chappy, CM, khan, champion all on bikes and painted to table top standard. Grav guns magnetized with meltas and plasmas for switching between DA and SM (I usually run allied Ravenwing with Whitescars) and vet sargs that have magnetized PW and PF as needed.
I'm always pumped to run that list. Even found 10 termies painted up Guardians colors on eBay for real cheap. It's really been a perfect storm, and with 7th the force is even better.

Hope no one minds a non 40k example but for me it was collecting and painting Samurai. I had collected some 40k stuff. Dark Angels for the most part picked up stuff from other armies I fancied painting like some IG or some Firewarriors but never really committed to painting a full force.
Started painting some Samurai and I was hooked. The style of the armour and clothing I liked a lot along with the back banners but there was also something pretty awesome about being able to read and research and base your models off was a lot of fun to me. Even though I am adding a fantasy twist to the army.
I could imagine a simialr effect if I was to create a tanith force (Which i would like to at some point once my green stuff and conversion skils are better ) even though they are ficional its fun to read about them and try to recreate that.

The army that was this exciting for me was Dark Eldar. Crushingly beautiful models and I got like $1500 worth of them as a gift. And it was awesome to try that army out and learn its intricacies.
