I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with putting the battlefoam 720 or similar miniature cases on bicycle luggage racks. I have recently acquired a bicycle, and as it will be my main method of transportation, I was thinking I would get a luggage rack and ride to my FLGS instead of taking the bus.

Would the miniatures be safe? Is there an easy and harmless way to affix the case for transportation on a bike?

I'm sure you could quite comfortably modify the case to somehow bolt onto a pannier rack. A hard case would be useful for that and give you a bit more protection if you tip it.

A Kaiser Rushforth case will fit into an Ortlieb Pannier.

I've been using a feldherr messenger style bag for years on the bike. Does rather well, except all metal armies make it hard going.

Sounds obvious, but many companies do a backpack version, and those are great for cycling. I use a KR Backpack 2 when on my bike.

You get the added shock absorption of one human body!

Those are all good ideas, but I was asking about using the battlefoam cases as that's what I already have.

With something like a bike, made-for-purpose is quite a big factor for suitability.
So, having a bag and making it fit might not get you very far.
Backpacks and pannier bags are the best ways to carry stuff on a bike.

Not having seen the battlefoam bag range in person, I assume it's quite wide.
As your bike has a pannier/luggage rack, use luggage straps and bungies (use both types) to hold the bag on. It may well be unwieldy and if you have a lot of metal models, may raise the centre-of-gravity too high.
Otherwise, get pannier bags that are big enough to hold your Battlefoam bags.

I think if you wrap the army box in something waterproof and reasonably tough, like blue tarpaulin sheet, then bungie strap it very securely to a pannier rack, that is the way to go.

You can also get net style cargo lashings which might give an easier way to fix the package if you are not confident about lashing it with straps.

Find a box the same size as your battle foam box and strap it to your bike. Maybe throw a couple of books in the box for some weight and take it for a ride. Should give you some idea what it's going to feel like with a bag full of models on your bike.
