I am by no means a great player. I have only played 2 people (over 10 games) and am still shaky on the rules. But in 2 months I will be going to (hopefully) a tournament. Its a big event with many games and Flames of War is one of them. Thankfully the period is early war.
The list limit is 1450 points.
I would prefer the 7th Infantry list (Veteran - Fearless) as its what my current list is made from.
I currently have the following models but am more than happy to buy more (preferably not too many more).
6 Ha Go light Tanks (Light Sensha Platoon) 5 Chi Ro? (medium Sensha Platoon) 2 Full infantry Platoons complete with command and Suicide team options 1st in command and 2nd in command 4 HMGs Battalion Gun battery
I usually run it at 1580 points with friends which is all the above without the medium sensha platoon. But I need to shed 100 points and or change my options so it can stand up to tourny players.
If someone has the book or the easy army pdf I would greatly accept the advice by any seasoned players who can help prepare me for the battles to come. If you need more info ill try my best to get it for you.
Thanks for the help guys.

I know a mates tournament List (1550) is
Japanese Infantry (FV)
HQ + Banner
Full Infantry Platoon
Full Infantry Platoon
3 Type-89 Tanks
3 Type-89 Tanks
2 Type-38 75mm Guns
2 Type-41 75mm Guns

The type 89s are significantly cheaper and essentially identical except that they are 1/3rd slower. They are fine infantry support tanks, relatively speaking of course.
I would be tempted to take a fortified company:
Hohei Chutai HQ
Hohei Platoon (banner)
Entrenched Position
Hohei Platoon (banner)
Entrenched Position
Hohei Battalion Gun Platoon
Hohei Rapid-fire Gun Platoon
Medium Sensha Company (6 type 89)
All FV
This would make you the defender in most missions automatically (FV infantry in prepared positions are a nightmare to shift) but as the Japanese are so offensively minded you could easily counter attack should you need to and the slow speed of your tanks wouldn't make much difference in this case. The only issues with this is that fortified lists need artillery and/or air support to function well and the Japanese are poorly served here.

The prefect example of someone missing the point.
Do not underestimate the Squats. They survived for millenia cut off from the Imperium and assailed on all sides. Their determination and resilience is an example to us all.

Its just a shame that they couldn't fight off Andy Chambers.
Warzone Plog
Problem with fortified company is I cannot assault at dawn which is the sole reason my army survives with such low numbers. At night I move at the double through terrain and nothing gets slowed down.
My current list is:
Hohei Chutai HQ (7th) Regimental standard
Hohei Platoon (7th)
Hohei Platoon (7th)
Hohei Machine-gun Platoon (7th)
Hohei Battalion Gun Platoon (7th)
Medium Sensha Company (5 Medium Tanks, 1 Tankette)
The above is based on models and awkward points. Its sole purpose is the assault and so the machine guns and battalion guns sole purpose is to keep pinning the enemy for the major assault and the tanks are there to try help give the infantry some staying power.
It seems as rapid fire guns are on everybody's lists over machine guns. Why is this the case?
The Japanese banners provide the platoon with the ability to ignore the first hit for pinning purposes. So instead of 5 hits to pin, its 6 and arty needs 2 hits to pin.
At 25 points a platoon is it worth it?
The regimental standard is 70 points and causes the platoon its joined with to auto pass all motivation checks.
With these in my (fearless veteran) army it costs 120 points all up. Is it a decent investment? Or shall I drop them for more bits and bobs?
