A piece I entered in a painting comp (sadly, he didn't place, but I still like him- cross-posted from my main blog because I was happy with his paint job). Notes for those who don't just want to look at pics.

That's awesome, fantastic contrasts and balance. Whataver topped that must've really been something to see. The stuff you have posted to the gallery rocks too, I think I like this the best though.

Thanks!

scuzz_bucket, I don't think this is my best work, but I do think he's in my top 10 or so, and thanks, either way

Not to get all sour grapes on the competition, but I was a bit disappointed in which entry won (below)- I felt it was a pretty basic bit of airbrush work. Not that I can use one to save my life (I just use it for getting some nice texture on large surfaces), but really thought it was only a pretty average paint job, and had kind of pants shading other than some airbrush highlights. I'm of course always hoping to win when I enter something, but I also hope that, if I don't, someone else wins with a great entry and gets recognized for their work, and I only really felt like the second place entry, of the three, was a strong one.

I still don't really feel like I understand public voting painting competitions- I've never had one where at least one entry (sometimes my own) doesn't do remarkably better than I expect. There are a couple times with visible polls where I've been almost positive it's voting fraud, but I'd like to believe that's the exception.

I haven't seen any of the other entries, and yet I still think your model should have won.
