Raw Dogger busts out his new BAO Astra Militarum list complete with a Stormlord vs. Reecius' Junkticrons in a BAO bat rep, trying out the new BAO format tournament missions! NOTE: Per the new FAQ, none of the named ICs can take a Command Barge. Sorry for the confusion.

Poor Raw Dogger ... he rolls like I do. Interesting change of the objectives. Any chance for those of us that are not able to attend the BAO to get a list of what changes you made?

Now, we like big books. (And we cannot lie. You other readers can’t deny, a book flops open with an itty-bitty font, and a map that’s in your face, you get—sorry! Sorry!)

Yeah, poor Raw Dog. Lol, he looked like he was going to cream me early game and then the wheels came off the bus.

And yes, we will have the complete player packet available this week for anyone that wants to use/modify it!

Another great report. From our groups experience lords of war are not that great. Mostly a hinderance, especially in male storm missions. Interesting take on the missions. I like it.

We have been testing them as well. We found they work best, for us anyway, to discard any card that both players could not conceivably score on. Also scoring at the beginning of your turn in stead of the end balances out a ton of the problems. Also we dropped first turn scoring. Makes it so you can always have a chance to react. Best missions we have tried so far and they tend to be really balanced, when both players can see them that is. Will try your version here soon. Looks like a good way to keep the idea but cut away the bs.

Thanks.

Next time you play dogger, you can have him make all the decisions and move all the models, but you should roll for him Reecius

I think lords of war are just too expensive(the restricted list anyway, transcendent c'tan gets its own section for the BS meter). I mean for the price of that one vehicle I can easily get 9 objective secured units, which he will have a hard time killing over the course of the game with that one unit.

Enjoying the battle reports. Think you guys could do some of your tournament armies next so we can see how they play? I would love to see what you guys think the armies are gonna be, as well as the threats you think you need to deal with.

Thanks a bunch

Nice batrep.

I have been playing around with some of the daemon lords and LoW in 7th.

I actually think that most people are vastly underestimating what objective secured combined with maelstorm score as you go has done to the game.

All the high price non objective secured LoW and deathstars just cannot eliminate their worth of objective secured scoring elements. Even the revenant titan will fail to kill the 15 OS SM drop pod units that you could get for the same points. In terms of being able to win the game I have found that the LoW are better as distractions and usually fail to win the game themselves. The parts of your list that win the games are the support elements which means that spending too much on a LoW is detrimental. After all when it comes down to it a "deathstar" (I include LoW in that) won the game in 6th by contesting the opponent's objectives in the last turn and scoring an objective or two with the rest of the list end game. (at least in BAO format, if you play KP every game then sorry )

This actually goes for unbound armies and double FoC armies as well as 6 troops is usually more than enough at sub 2000 pts. I do however agree that some double FoC and unbound armies are just not fun to play against as seeing 6-20 copies of the same vehicle or MC is just boring. This lack of OS is also what keeps the daemon factory from dominating as if you are mentally prepared for it you can limit the damage you take and capture the objectives.

I totally understand limiting LoW as many of them are a total departure from the normal game and would cause some serious problems as most people would get a very rude awakening by getting kicked in the reproductive bits by a hellstorm template.

I must say I like your new mission format. I will be interested as to how it works out in the full tournament.

Also Raw Doger's concerns with firing order due to orders. I think that is why the anti vehicle orders tend to be more popular. It is almost always beneficial to shoot the transports and vehicles first before going after the squishy troops inside or the guys bunched around the tanks.

Problem with OS troops, deamon factories & allies is Coteaz & 6 Psybacks with henchman batteries.

Good battle report. I think mobility will become one of the biggest things in this edition. However that does depend on what style & format of missions is eventually adopted as cannon. I can already see, along with my own experiences, that it has become common practice to discard & redraw unachievable Malestrom Objectives.

Glad you all liked it!

And yeah, Raw Dogger's dice to desert him fairly frequently, poor guy!

The LoW have been hit or miss for us. They hit like a train but often aren't so hot at winning missions (outside of Kill Points).
