On the back of a hog.

So both knights are STR10 but have STRD weapons.

If a T5 or lower model is wounded by my knight is it insta killed? Or do I not use the models strength and then roll on the Destroyer table to see how many wounds I caused?

If it is the latter (boo), can I just opt to not use his Destroyer weapon and use his regular STR10 AP2 (AP2 due to smash) attacks in order to insta-death that annoying character?

Thanks!

I going off the top of my head here, so I'm prepared to be corrected, but ID isn't checked for unless a wound is suffered, so you would follow the D rules to wound the character, and should one of the wounds make it through, and be insufficient to kill the model outright, then one would check the strength of the wound vs toughness of the target and if it is x2 or better, ID would occur.

What T5 or lower model has more than 4 wounds? Because the D table does d3+3 wounds, so you are doing at least 4.

But yes, it does cause ID.

Lets say there is a 10 wound t2 model. You roll a 4 on the D table and cause 5 wounds. 1 of those wounds is sufficient to cause ID, as the wound suffered has a S over double their T.

The above is quite useful btw if a Knight is your Warlord, and is tehrefore a character, and can therefore participate in challenges.

Since wounds overflow in challenges, it is not unreasonable to kill a squad just by fighting in the challenge and causing 10+ wounds.

Aftermath can be calculated.

Not true, as d weapons cause wounds to a model, they do not generate a wound pool.

As above,
To back that up further, from the Destroyer rule:
"Multiple Wounds/Hull Points inflicted by a Destroyer hit do not carry over to other models in the unit (any excess are lost)."

fair enough, but ID still applies :p

Of course.
The Destroyer rule also states what strength it is considered for the purpose of Instant Death.

On the back of a hog.

New D weapon rules for 7th cause only D3 wounds when you roll a 2-5. Hence the question

So the consensus is I get to use both the STRD of the weapon as well as the model's STR10 insta deathing models T5 or lower?

No, you use the strength of the weapon. Fortunately, the Destroyer rules tells you what Strength to use for ID purposes.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

As above. You use the weapon.
The model's strength is not used.

But check the Destroyer rules for how it treats Instant Death.
