Hi Members,

Questions on the Dark Angels' Ravenwing army. They're entirely mounted on Bikes, Attack Bikes and Landspeeders.

    1. In a scenario that involves buildings and ledges, that enemy troops are in or on, how does the Ravenwing army do assaults? I mean can RW bikes enter a building?

     2. Can Bikes climb up to the second floor ledge? Or are forced to destroy the enemy by firepower?

   3. Can a Biker (or any troop for that matter) assault an enemy inside a building (say the enemy is looking out a window) from the outside?

Thanks, Sandy

1.yes they can but they require a riding skill check-so don't roll 1.s but you do get a re-roll for being skilled riders.

2.depends on the rules you agreed upon. do you count each level up as 6" or are the enemy models just X number of inches in with no reguard for height?(placed to fit terrain)  bikes have a 12" move + 6" assault so it should be no problem to get them "up" to another level

3.you can always assault into buildings even fortified ones-bunkers are a bit different, either you go in the door or break the bunker directly then assault through the rubble-bunker is a static AV14 building-if you succesfully pen it it is counted as destroyed and can be assaulted through like any other building it also reduces the enemies cover save by 1 when you destroy it..

just a few pointers as a ravenwing player-you should never ever be assaulting with ravenwing unless you must, or to finish off a depleted squad.. ravenwings true strength is it's mobile shooting platforms. if you have enemies(especially guard or horde armies) hiding in cover use flamers and lots of backup shooting to support them.

i personally run 2 flamers in each bike squad.

I'm hoping against hope that Cities of Death (the supposed replacement for the less than useful Cityfight) will answer many questions about urban terrain.

IMHO, while it's silly to think about marine bikes 'scooby-doo' climbing stairs in a ruined building, the assault rules do state that assault can also reflect close range firefights and such. So in the interest of not totally nerfing the Ravenwing for terrain, I would allow the assault to go off.

However, if your bikes started camping out on the upper floors of the office buildng during succesive shooting phases, or you tried to enter a building with a landspeeder, we would have a problem.

Ahoj!
In my part of the world bikes are at best allowed to enter the groundfloor of buildings.
At worst, not at all.
Sorry, you've got an oddball army, so sometimes you pay for it.

Yes, IMO Ravenwing would be an almost automatic loser in Bunker Assault. Not all armies/army builds are equally suited to all scenarios.
