I'm considering to buy the digital codex.
I don't have the smartphone yet, so I want to buy the most fitted platform for the digital codex.
I heard the Ipad is the best one, but I think it is little bit too big.
But if you guys say that I have to buy it if I you want to use digital codex, I will be willing to pay it.
What do you guys think about this?

32G+ iPad
Some of the dexes are 1.5G alone. So if you want to have your whole collection on there you'll need 32G minimum.
Also I have a thread on how you can save crazy money on digital dexes.

I have all my stuff on an iPad now, if you got questions just ask.

Rick Priestley said it best:
Bryan always said that if the studio ever had to mix with the manufacturing and sales part of the business it would destroy the studio. And I have to say – he wasn’t wrong there! The modern studio isn’t a studio in the same way; it isn’t a collection of artists and creatives sharing ideas and driving each other on. It’s become the promotions department of a toy company – things move on!

You can get an android but the ebook versions of the dexes are terrible. The quick links on the enhanced versions (only on ipads) is what makes it worth while.
Pretty sure the iPhone 5s support ibooks now.

Thank you, you helped me a lot.
I can't understand why they don't make for the a little bit old Iphone version.

The best format I find is a scanned, OCR'd, bookmarked pdf - thankfully format shifting is legal in Australia. Have all the books you need open at once in tabs on your tablet (also on your PC, not limited to one device or any application) and good bookmarks let you get exactly where you need quickly.

In a pinch, the phones will work as well. But really, the iPad is by far the best platform for reading digital products from GW on a portable device. (I'm an Android user, and find the epub versions almost unusable as a quick reference during the game).
For viewing on a computer, a PDF of the actual scanned book is the best, provided you have a big enough screen. I've been annotating my copies with bookmarks and cross-links to other sections of the book - it's a lot of work, but can make your reading of the books amazingly efficient.

You can use a chrome app on a laptop to read a ebook. It's not the best option, but it works fine.

I personally use the ebooks. I find the .mobi file to be a much better version that the .epub versions. .mobi is the Kindle format, and in Kindle the books come up just fine. I got the 7th rulebooks that way and they look good. All future codexes will also be that way too.
I really wish they had PDFs for the books, but they don't offer that option.
Thanks,
Duncan

I was leary for the interactive versions. My wife got an iPad, so I tried it. Enough to say, I use the iPad more now than she does, since I love getting my GW on the iPad now.
Love the interactive features and well worth the $10 more I pay.

Overall iBook version(the one for iPads/iPhones) is vastly superior to any other digital one because it's very interactive - most the times you don't have to shuffle through it, you can just search for whatever you need or, in case of equipment, you get pretty hotlinks that after clicking the gun's name just show the stats and rules for it, which is great.
If you own an iPad or even just think about getting one then you should go for the interactive iPad versions. Regular ebooks are unfortunately clumsy and without a crapload of notes slapped on them they're much less practical and comfortable to use than printed ones.
I own a few Codexes and the big rulebooks for both 40k and WFB on my iPad and I must say they're really fantastic!

The iBook version is far better than the ebook versions.
But, the ibook one only works on selected Apple kit.

I tried this, and Firefox's apps have a top limit. The Eldar and 7th BRB are too big for Firefox.
I'll try Chrome again, but couldn't find a good app.

You can get iBooks for free on most laptops I think. You can use all the same features there, you don't necessarily need an iPad.

The interactive version currently costs thema lot more (for the use of the publishing software) than the non-interactyive, hence they limit it ot the biggest single market - iOS.
That may change, but for now the iOS only interactive version is THE BEST format. I too bought an iPAD JUST for the codexes, and use them a lot.
(know this second hand from a very good friend who worked on testing the platform last year - its literally a checkbox to publish interactive on both iOS and Android, but this has a usage fee)

You can also download the Kindle app to any android device or to your computer. It works great with the .mobi files.

I use my Kindle Fire HD, it has plenty of room for all the digital 40k stuff I need. Though, as an IT Forensics student I'd rather saw off my legs with a paintbrush than own an iPad.

After seeing a few different options in action I have to say I would choose the iPad platform for rulebooks. The interactive features.are very nice and the search and glossary are amazing.
