So I'm putting together two small new squads of bikers for my Chaos Marines meant to harass and blow up tanks with speed. I'd like to do 2 melta guns, combi-melta and melta bombs on the champs.

But should I make them so the dudes are holding the meltaguns and leave the twin-linked bolters alone? Or should I replace the twin-linked bolters with the special weapons? I can't decide if the extra attack is worth the sacrifice of shootyness when they come up against more horde/footslogger armies.

What do other CSM players like?

Being Relentless, I like the plasma gun option too, so maybe some magnets are in order....

From a modelling perspective, I have seen it done both ways. I like to put the guns on the riders, it just looks more impressive than something mounted on the handlebars.

With regards to how you are going to use them, Bikers excel at charges. MoN and MoS make them pretty tough against hordes already. It's really up to you if you want the extra attack, but I find (especially with 8+ biker squads) they do enough already and benefit more from the guns.

I run 2x 3man MoN squads with meltas. I usually replace the cc weapon instead of the bolters. I try not to get into CC with them and they are pretty much there just to blow up vehicles. Mine still have the bolters on the bikes and I put the meltas in their hands.
