We have a tournament in 3 weeks, and i am seriously thinking to buy 3rd vindicator for my Clan raukaan Iron hands(I am bringing the Chapter master smash*ucker and lvl 2 libby with mindforge stave as well as command squad with apothecary bikes and grav guns).. Got 2 ten man tactical marines in a rhino (with heavy special and combi weapon, which i will combat squad) and 5 snipers with camocloaks, stormtalon with TL lascannon, and 3 vindicators. That is a rough scheme for the list, what do you think will it be good enough distraction? with a bit of luck they can cause quite a damage in the enemy army....

Is the TO allowing more than 1 CAD?


If your allowed Double CAD then 3 vindi's is very viable. In fact run 6.

People learn to respect the Pie Plate power of Vindicators early in their Wargamming exploits. If you let them live, they will murder everything they come close to. I've run 3 b4 and they did their jobs of being cheap, murderous and soaking up fire quite well. In fact, I'd go as far as saying I'm stupid for ever changing my tactics and NOT constantly running 3.

Thank you for the advices, but the tournament is something like farewell to 6th, so nothing of 6 vindicators in 1750 pts game....
The only reason i asked was other than short range, is there really any flaw/downside/reason not to take 3 vindicators ( And don't give me the answers like overkill, THERE IS NO SUCH THING!! )

The only downside to running lots of Vindicators is the chance that you run into lots of Flyers.

Or monstrous creatures. Or serpents...Basically any competitive tournament list doesn't care about vindicators. Even hordes aren't that vulnerable cause they can spread out and suffer minimum cheap casualties but it's allready good if you force a footslogging mellee horde spread - it's gona slow them down considerably.

Vindicator has gotten worse at vehicle hunting with explosions only on 6 now. Though, it's still not bad vs a battlewagon wall.

What vindicator does best is killing bunched up expensive infantry if the blast doesn't scatter too much. It's really good vs something like deepstriking crysis suits, grotesques or koptas/nob bikers. And it really threatens broadsides and grot gunz.

On the whole, it's a very situationally-dependant tank. It will do absolutely nothing vs eldar cheeze, flyer spam or riptide spam however. And there's no tournament without those.

What I would recommend in this situation is drop all the vindicators and use a knight titan. Super heavy walker, rapid fire battle-cannon, strength d chainsword, instant kill stomps, and for only 30 more pts than 3 vindicators its amazing. Can handle pretty much anything, and if you play it right even melta-guns will have a hard time getting through its ion shield.
