Farsight Enclaves: Can Members Of The Eight Be Taken As A Separate HQ Choice?

So the Farsight Enclaves supplement tells us that Farsight can forgo his normal XV8 Bodyguard and take the command team of members of the eight instead, in which case they don't take up HQ slots.

I was wondering if you could alternatively take them as a separate HQ choice. I don't see anything which says I can or can't, just that if I have Farsight I can take them without taking up a slot.

Thoughts?

They replace thee Bodyguard team, they are Slotless and there is no possible way to take them without Farsight as your Warloard.

This one is clear cut.

They are slotless when replacing Farsight's normal Shas'vre Bodyguard team.

When choosing a Farsight Enclaves army, you have access to a special unit called Farsight’s Commander Team. If you choose to take this unit, Commander Farsight does not allow you to take an XV8 Crisis Bodyguard Team as normal; he has the Commander Team instead. This special unit is an HQ choice that does not take of a Force Organisation slot and consists of up to seven other battlesuits chosen from the Eight. They must be equipped exactly as described; the Signature Systems rule above does not apply to them. They can take no other options. Each of the Commander Team models is Unique and has the Independent Character special rule.

That doesn't restrict them from being purchased normally, just that if chosen as part of the commander team they don't take up slots.

Correct, now find any permission that tells you they can be chosen without being taken as part of Farsight's Bodyguard Team?

You can't, because there isn't any.

Ah, that is true. Considering the army is chosen from Codex: Tau Empire and the members of the Eight aren't in there I guess that the only time you can play them is with the commander team.

I would also recommend looking at Errata:

The Errata created two additional Requirements: That Farsight is your Warlord and that it is a Rule only available to a "Farsight Enclave Detachment," ensuring it is impossible to access to the eight get without the glorious Ethereal hating leader himself.

To be fair, most of them can be made using the regular codex or with the FE supplement. The main thing you lose out on is the IC special rule.
