Switching over from 40k for a while, need a serious break. Spent a few days looking into WM/H and love a lot of the armies, mostly the Trolls cause Trolls are awesome.
For learning and initial build purposes, how does the Battlebox hold up?

I don't understand the travesty that is the Trollblood battlegroup. Why is it one of the more expensive boxes even though it has 3 lights instead of the usual 2 lights and a heavy? That Madrak doesn't have the Fury to run a lot of Warbeasts simply seals it as one of the worst starter packs around for any game.

I saw it online for $30 which isn't too bad imo, but is it enough to learn to play the game I mean?

It would better to get some random trollblood stuff you like and learn with that, since the Battlebox provides hardly any saving over buying the model individually and comes with a PVC warlock which you will quickly swap for a metal version.

Because those were the only sculpts available at the time of Hordes original release. Same goes for all the boxes, hence why they all have duplicate Warbeasts in them.
But this is OT....
Although it should be taken with a pinch of salt, have a read of some of the writeups from Trollblood players to get an experienced player's overview

I don't get it....
You get less product in your box than the other battlegroups, so PP should charge less for it. Otherwise people won't want to but the Trollblood Battlegroup because you save less, just because Privateer couldn't wait until the Dire troll was finished 8 years ago.

The thing with the trollblood battle box is that it is not bad in itself, it is just not really geared correctly (for any lock except for the crazy shaman guy) The axer and madrak though are fantastic core units and the Impalers are great for when you expand into the range further for Grim and Skulk. You will enjoy the box for a few games but once your opponent has you pegged there is generally no recover from the fight in my experience. Trolls in a nutshell are tough to kill death machines that hit you, maim your face, then eat you or just eat your face too. We have many good choice and many good builds and with a new Borka coming soon our army just got better. We tend to act like Khador without the stupidity attached the play style of actual khador as hordes has more options on how to run their battlegroups. Our mountain king is alright but for it to be great you have to commit over half the army to boosting him to deal out the pain and have never bothered to field one. Madrak will make an excellent starting lock for you to use and will let you expand into more beat stick casters down the road (insert borka and emadrak) with little changing in term of composition.

If you have to go with the Battlegroup, I would also get a mountain king amongst something to help with Fury. Then you would be able to use the MK animus on the Axer and have it able to attack every model within "2" with boosted attack and good POW.
