Currently building a late war soviet army. So I have all these stug's and I was going to do a late war bunch of allies for my guards tank brigade. Good idea? Bad idea? I just am never going to use them as germans.
Wonder if I could find equivalent rules (such as hungarian) or late german and what book.
I'm using desperate measures and red bear and my main opponent is American and easy going!

Use the StuGs as late war Romanian TA assault guns.

The Romanians also use a lot of German equipment, they just rename it. The TA assault gun is a StuG G, the AB armored car is a Sd Kfz 222, the T-38 is a Panzer 38(t), a T-3 is a Panzer III N and a T-4 is a Panzer IV H.

Romanians were German allies until they were overrun by the Soviets in August 1944 when they switched to the Allied side. Red Bear allows Romanian forces to take either German or Soviet allied units.

Battlefront does make Romanian infantry but I'm not sure if you could get by using the German infantry from the Open Fire! boxed set (not sure if the bread bag is the right shape ). You might want to run it past your usual opponents to see if it's okay with them.

Yeah. I know me. I will end up spending a fortune on a german army if I don't do something about them!!!

The only Romanian lists in Red Bear that allows you to use both the German infantry and the StuGs are Batalion Puscasi (infantrybattalion) or the Companie de Cavalerie (cavalry - as in horses).

The thing is, though, the use is rather restricted. The Romanians concentrated almost all of their armor into the 1st Armored Division, and the division wasn't handed out in pieces to the rest of the Romanian army. As a result, the Romanian StuGs are only available in the Armored list and the Motorised Infantry list. The only Romanian tank that breaks that mold is the T-38 (i.e. Panzer 38(t)), which was made available to the cavalry and mountain units. But the last of those tanks were lost in the Crimea.
So if you're looking for a list that will allow you to combine Soviet troops with StuGs, the Romanians aren't going to do what you need them to do.

Except for the two lists I noted above, where you field them as German StuG G and not TA assault guns.

No. According to wikipedia the Waffen Grenadier Regiment of the SS (1st Romanian) was in Germany refitting when Romania signed a ceasefire with the Soviets. They'd probably best be represented using one of the SS lists found in Grey Wolf.

Except that, for obvious reasons, you can't combine German StuGs with Soviet troops...
The Late War Romanian Puscasi list allows both Soviet and German allies, but not at the same time. Given that the OP is already building a Soviet army, the "same time" component appears to be what he's looking for.

My bad. We weren't really discussing Soviet troops, just using the Germans in the box as Romanians so I missed your reference to 'Soviet' troops.

Yeah thanks guys. Having a box of german infantry is bad news..I'm just going to embrace the spend.
Because since posting got a soviet army. Already been ebay'd and internet spend. The germans are next (because I own them and can't use them for anything bar maybe finnish) and because of this damn conversation im going to have to make a Romanian cavalry army 1943 in the crimea! Damn it! Anyone now if the Romanians used the FT tanks? Obsolete here I come.

Only after joining the Allies, and then only very briefly. They had a few left over from before the war that never saw combat until after the defection. I'm not even entirely certain that the list in Red Bear allows you to use them.
