I own three GF9 3' x 3' mats and am extremely pleased with all of them. The only trouble is, none of them look very good laid out next to another one as a 6' x 3', which size is pretty well necessary now that there are huge ship scenarios. I already know about Deep-Cut Studios but I am a bit concerned about how thin their mats are. I have seen some other mats but have little idea as to the quality and I don't care for Hubble-type photographs. I think something more artistic fits Star Wars better. DIY is also out for me, whether concerning frabic stores or print shops.

As it is, I rather hope GF9 announces something come GenCon.

HCDSupplies(.com) just won an Origins Award for their 3x3 'Space Battle Mat'. It's the same material as TCG card game mats. Also they as a company make 'full table' card game mats so I'm anticipating a 6x3 in the future.

Only problem is nobody I've talked to has any clue how to get one. I'm going to try emailing them.

Scratch that, found it. But it's a pain in the ass to order one it looks like. Have to register with them and all.

Anyone know when the HCD Starfield map will be released?

Talk to your local stores, it is a good chance that at least one of their distributors carries HCD mats. Mine got a bunch of long (6x2 I believe) MTG themed ones in for their card tables, and stocks the 3x3s for X-Wing.

Alternatively, ask Miniature Market or ask HCD via their FB page.

I have a brilliant Ry'leh themed epic mat from them. Shipping to the states might cost you though.
