Upcoming Tournament, thoughts on this list please?
Last year I ran a 3x Riptide list at this national tournament, but didn't really have fun with the list and am trying to shy away from it this year.
I dont care about winning, I go to play a lot of games and in general have a good time, but I don't want to be waffle-stomped either.

In 7th rule book I believe allies have to be from a different faction. And most tournaments are certainly stating this quite explicitly.

Farsight bomb - bring meltas and purtide chip. The meta is swinging over to vehicles again. Expect to do well if you are prepared for this.

I dont know why you take gun drones. Shield drones are by far much more effective. Tau shoot great already why not keep them alive so they can do so longer?

On your Missile Pod Crisis I would take skyfire on them. You have no anti air + they can choose flyer or ground targets. Also no gun drones on them, save the points they are long range fire.

If you have a skyshield I would bring that and up your missile drones on your Missile sides for a shielded missile drone squad. It would also save all your marker drones from ap 4 shots. I like the devil fish!

Riptides are still awesome dont be discouraged by them!

@Kholzerino, what is "most" tournaments defined as? The big GTs coming up, BAO and NOVA, are allowing FE to ally with TE.

@Steel-Wolf, If you're going to bring a Farsight bomb, you have to go all the way or not at all. As it stands, you have a very expensive unit coming in at random, and then dying. It is not tough enough to withstand a full volley from a competent shooting army.

This is what a Farsight bomb should look like:

Farsight
Buffmander (there are some who argue Shadowsun, but with TFCs and Wyverns out there, you really need 2+ and 4 wounds.)- Iridium, MSS, CCN, PEN, x2 Shield Drones
Bodyguard1- x2 Plasma, x2 Shield Drones, Target Lock- 91
Bodyguard2- x2 Plasma, x2 Shield Drones, Target Lock- 91
Bodyguard3- x2 Plasma, x2 Shield Drones, Target Lock- 91
Bodyguard4- x2 Plasma, x2 Gun Drones, Target Lock- 91
Bodyguard5- x2 Fusion, x2 Gun Drones, Target Lock- 91
Bodyguard6- x2 Fusion, x2 Gun Drones, Target Lock- 91
Bodyguard7- x2 Fusion, x2 Gun Drones, Target Lock- 91

Total: 986

Fill in the rest as you see fit, but spamming 3 Skyrays and as many kroot as you can fit is standard,

You also need a Comms Relay now; which luckily in 7th you can bring by itself for 20 points. The list isn't as good as it was in 6th because you can't attach Tigurius with gate to kite you around the board. You also lose a turn of shooting essentially because when Tiggy was around you could just deploy on the board and still "deep strike." It's still okay, but honestly I think we should just move on to greener pastures. Deathstar 40k really isn't the it thing anymore. At least not if you don't have access to invisibility....and we don't :(

1 w/ flamer and VRT, Shield Gen, CCN, MSS,
8 Gun Drones

Spoiler:
A small Farsight Bomb can be effective, but your first and largest issue is that this Bomb is illegal. Sinceyou are taking from the Farsight Enclaves, you can't have the C&CN and the MSSS on his Bodyguard, they'd have to choose from the Farsigth Enclvae Sig Systems. You can swap the list around and make Tau Primary, and FE Allied with Farsight as your Warlord and make the Ethereal part of FE. Only loses you one solo suit from Troops. I'd take the Shield off the Buff suit as you don't want him rolling any saves if possible, or give him Iridium Armor and keep the Shield letting him tank if needed. Risky, also could be added to a basic Buffcommander as Tau will likely be Primary.. Keep him cheap, the flamer is good for defense. I don't know if I'd want Dual Plasma, I'd probably go for Dual Fusion with Target locks, that way you can pound one unit and use the Drones and Farsight to hammer another.

FA:
6x Marker Drone
6x Marker Drone

Spoiler:
Pricey for BS2, better than no Markerlights at all though.

Troops:
3 Crisis Suits w/ 2 Missile Pods
3 Gun Drones

1 Crisis Suit w 2x Fusion
1 Gun Drone

1 Crisis Suit w 2x Fusion
1 Gun Drone

Spoiler:
Suits look fine, ablative Drones can be very beneficial, but with 36" range the MP Suits don't need them and the Fusion are sacrificial melta.

Heavy Support:
3 Broadsides with HYMP and Smart Missiles.
3 Missile Drones

Spoiler:
Always solid.

Allies: Tau
HQ:
Ethereal

Troops:
11 Firewarriors w/ Rifle
Devilfish w/ D-Pod, and Sensor Spines

12 Firewarriors w/ Rifle
Devilfish w/ D-Pod, and Sensor Spines

Spoiler:
Fish O Fury. Nothing wrong with that.

TOTAL: 1849

See Spoilered Comments. The list as written is illegal, as counter intuitive as it is, move Tau to Primary with Farsight as the Warlord, then have the Ethereal be the FE HQ. Only loses you one SoloSuit out of Troops, but makes the list legal for acquiring the Tau Signature Systems.

Actually FE bodyguards can legally get Tau signature items because the restriction for FE are only on characters. Since bodyguards are not characters they are fine.

Why would you run a small Farsight bomb? Its just going to die the turn it comes in. I say all or nothing, if you want to use Farsight, do it right: Farsight, Shadowsun, A support suit, 4 Dual plasma, 2 Dual fusion, and as many gun drones as you can bring!

This is very true, and misread by a lot of people.

It also demonstrably not possible, as all FE Signature Systems are "one per army". There are only 6 FE signature systems.,,, so if a FE army has more than 6 suits in it, you'd have a lot of suits that couldn't take a sig system at all.

As to the other comments: Thanks for all the advice, I'll rework some of the numbers and see if I can shift some things around so that I can take more bodyguards and put skyfire on the missile suits.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Ok here's the re-worked list. I shifted some stuff, but in order to fit it all in I had to drop the shields on the bodyguards... (good? bad?)

HQ:
1x Commander Farsight
3x Bodyguards w/ 2 Plasma Rifles
2x Bodyguards with 2x Fusion and target locks.
1x Bodyguard w/ Flamer for overwatch, and VRT, CCN, PEN, and MSS
5x Gun Drones
( In general I don't prefer Shield Drones, as they only have a 50/50 chance of surviving a heavy hit and lose all shooting ) I wont rule them out, but in general I prefer the added shooting.

Fast Attack:
(Same as above, 2 squads of 6 Marker drones)

Troops:
3x Crisis suits w/ 2x Missile Pods and Velocity Trackers
(No Drones)

1x Crisis Suit w/ 2x Fusion
(No Drones)

1x Crisis Suit w/ 2x Fusion
(No Drones)

Heavy Support:
3x Broadsides w/ HYMP and Smart Missiles
3x Missile Drones

(Would there be a big advantage or disadvantage to taking the broadsides as separate units?) They couldn't benefit from the marker lights, but then they don't need much support.

Allies:
HQ:
Ethreal

Troops:
11x Fire Warriors
Devil Fish w/ Sensor Spines and Disruption Pod

12x Fire Warriors
Devil Fish w/ Sensor Spines and Disruption Pod

Total: 1849

How about gutting the whole TE allies all together? I am not really a fan of devil fishes and I think they are really expensive. If you do that you can add 1-2 skyrays for AA (then you can take away VT from the suits to keep them cheap) and more suits (since you don't want any riptide though maybe at least add 1?). Also you can beef up your bomb more with the points.

I'm on the record as saying anything other than a full bomb is a bad idea; and I outlined what a full one looks like above.

That being said, if you're going to go through with this in any version, you need a Comms Relay! A prime place to find 20 points would be losing VT on the Crisis MPs. That's a points sink any way; and not that effective at BS3.
