I got one friend to bite on Infinity, so hopefully I can get some noob games in.

He really likes Morats and chose them. Right now he just has their starter set. I know he is going to want to buy the Daturazi next.

Any other purchases worth having? Anything worth avoiding?

Well here's a guide I found when I was trying to get opinions for vanilla CA. It (like most Infinity tactica) basically boil down to "this unit is awesome, here's why...this unit is awesome, here's why...I used to not like this unit, but now I know it's awesome, here's why..." This game is truly a wonder to behold from a balance perspective sometimes.

I'm not a fan of the monkeys myself, but a definite standout for me is the Sogarat. He's not so much "heavy infantry" as he is a "light TAG". And he can be your Lt...

MAF starter, Daturazi box, and the Morat Vanguard box with all the special weapons are a good starting point for a collection.

Also a box of the Hungries if he really likes the Oznat.

Well, it sounds like my friend has good taste. He picked out the Sogarat and the Morat Vanguard as next potential purchases, just based on looks.

I don't think he's a fan of the hungries, although once he catches on to the rules... his opinion may change.

I'll read that thread when I get home. Although with the above 3 purchases (Sogarat, Vanguard, Daturazi), I think he'll have enough to play around with for 300 points.

Damn this game is seductively easy to pick up. I wish I had a $50 book I had to buy as a barrier to start new armies.

Yar. $50 gets a nice start on a new faction here, especially with some of the discounts available at online stores.

Another bit of advice to the Murder Monkey Afficionado. The Morats are getting a refresh right now, so he may want to consider that with his purchases. Some stuff may be re-done. Not the starter, the vanguard or the Daturazi, but other stuff.

Yeah I'll make sure he's only getting the new stuff. Luckily, it's painfully obvious which Morats are new. The old ones have their charms, but damn. The new ones are really awesome looking.

Something to remember is Morats are in the middle of a range revamp. So if there's older models he likes, it's probably good to plan on grabbing them.
