A Skull at the Throne of Khorne

Good-day!

I am starting a brand new 40k Khorne army of 1,000 points but am stumped as to what to put in. I just was wondering what is the best 1,000 Khorne army to use that is effective in combat but not too vulnerable getting there.

Was thinking so far:

- 1x Rhino
- ~Squad of Bloodletters
- ~Squad of Khorne beserkers
-2 squads of normal chaos marines (for ranged suppression)

...What you think?

...Any ideas on an effective Khorne army?

Regards.

Landraiders are your friend. Being an assault transport means they're a good option for getting a gang of khorne berserkers into your enemy's face. Get a lord with a mark of khorne to make them troops, too, or Kharn obviously.

Demon princes with wings are also a great assault unit, but can be pretty expensive at 1000 points. Might be a good option to lead the demons allied detachment?

One trick I read about somewhere was taking a unit of cc cultists with mark of khorne led by a dark apostle. Lots of attacks on the charge and fearless and hatred.

Thanks!

You really think cc cultists can help? Should I use them as cannon fodder up front of my main squad? I heard they are very easy to kill.

Here you go: http://daemons40k.blogspot.com/2014/01/winning-with-khorne.html

Khorne daemon princes are the worst DP possible. If you are looking for a tough MC, then just go with the bloodthirster.

Flesh hounds and heralds of khorne will be your best unit.

If you are looking to use large blocks of berzerkers then huron might be a good warlord, as his infiltrate on multiple squads will help the berzerkers keep up with the scouting hounds and put more pressure on the opposition.

I wouldn't get a chaos landraider, they are sucky when compared to the LRC. If you do want to go down this route then take the FW Spartan instead. Transport cap of 25 and double the firepower.

Low point cost matches are tricky for Berzerker lists because you really need land raiders....or really any assault based army. They need expensive supporting units like transports.

Maybe something like this?

Kharn the Betrayer, 9 Berzerkers in a land raider w/ Dirge Caster

20 Cultists
20 Cultists

Sometihng for anti-tank. Maulerfiend?

As I said before, I wouldn't even bother with CSM landraiders. Transport cap of 10 is just pathetic and they are quite schizo in their game plan.

If you are really going to make this work then I'd go with daemons. CSM just don't have the speed to reach the opponent.

I'd focus on daemons, and centre the army around hounds with heralds. Scout + 12 and run move a turn has a good chance of reaching the opponent.
The biggest weakness of the list is heavy walkers, as they can ignore your dogs completely. Fortunately daemons have soul grinders to fill this gap.

With CSM personally I'd go with the infiltrating or any scout stuff you can get. Maulerfiends look like a good bet to cover your anti tank. Cultists are ok, but they would be better with an IC with them, to counter their average leadership.

Indeed, as you said before. No need to restate your opinion every time someone disagrees with you

On second thought, I think land raiders, any variant, are probably too expensive for 1000 point games. Since most 1000 point games do not allow fliers, perhaps just go daemons?

Bloodthirster- Greater Reward, Exalted Reward (Warlord)
10 Flesh Hounds
10 Bloodletters
10 Bloodletters
Soul Grinder- DoK, Baleful Torrent

30 Points left, go nuts. I would deep strike the blood letters, they will get obliterated otherwise. Give em icons and stuff to help deep strike. Throw a grimoire on the dogs maybe.
