I couldn't find this question, which blows my mind because I'm sure it's been asked before.

The BRB says Battlebuddies can embark on friendly transports, does this mean they can do so before the game start? Like with drop pods?

Only the unit that purchased the dedicated transport, plus any attached characters, may begin the game deployed in it. You do have permission to get into it after the game starts.

So no unit can hijack another units drop pod, as you cannot embark into one after it is deployed.

Literally just made a thread about this very same question. This is relevant to my interests.

Edit, re: above- so if I were to attach say an inquisitor to the unit, he could arrive via drop pod with the pods dedicated unit?

So if I attached a IC from DA codex to a group of honor guard with a drop pod from the Vanilla codex, that's ok?

The Battle Brothers rules say that you treat the models as if they are friendly models for all rules purposes.

There is a bullet point that mentions that you are allowed to embark upon friendly transports, which seems to be confusing people into thinking that this embarkation is limited to after the game starts. It should be noted that the bullet points are all specifically called examples and therefore cannot be considered an exhaustive list.

a character can join a unit in its dedicated transport at deployment, so long as there is space for him to do so.

so you can join a character to a squad of 9 in a drop pod, so long as the drop pod was bought for them.

you can't put a different unit altogether in the pod, however.

if there are any really dangerous characters that can get in pods (IE not jump infantry) you could run 5 characters in 1 pod of 5 marines. could be scary!
