I'll be temporarily in the US for about a year but won't have time/weight/space for much in the way of minis.
I'm thinking of getting Relic or Horus Heresy to scratch the gaming itch, any thoughts on either?
I'd be looking for something beer and pretzilish for friends.

Horus Heresy is two players only and is quite tactically involved. If you're looking for something for a group activity, Relic will be a much better choice. I haven't played it, but I have played Talisman, which it heavily borrows from. If you're ok with a game where luck will probably dictate the winner more than the actions of the players, I say go for it.
Now if you want something that's excellent instead of settling for acceptable, I recommend Chaos in the Old World. It supports four (five with the expansion) players carving up territory and each other with dramatically distinct objectives and tools. It's one of my favorite board games period.

Relic is awesome. I actually stopped playing talisman completely when it released. I suggest purchasing it and the expansion. They are reallg great adaptations of talisman for the 40k fan.

Thanks maybe Relic and HH both then.
Dunno about Chaos in Old World... I'll have to look more at it.

The gameboard actually ruined Relic for me.
It's really messy, hard to tell where a square ends and the next begins, and it's hard to read what they say.
It's designed by someone that loves the windows 3.11 Travel Through Space screensaver.
Also, the endgame missions, while a great idea, are mostly stupid and can decide the game in a certain character's favour.
"Oh, look, we drew the one where everyone keeps getting turned to chaos and I'm the character that's pretty much immune to that. Well played guys, shall we pack it up now?"
