I like 4x plasma guns with an apothecary giving them Feel No Pain for the Gets Hot.
If you want a CC unit, I would look elsewhere. These guys are too expensive for a 3+ armor save and no invulnerable save to expect to do anything in CC. 5 Thunder Hammer terminators do more and last longer for about the same price as a CC equipped Command Squad.

If they're decked out for CC, is there a chance you've spent too much on them? The best defence you can get for them is a 3++ and a 5+ FNP, and that's still not as good as Terminator/Artificer armour mathematically.
So I'd say that to maximise their effectiveness, you actually want to minimise their threat, so they aren't as much of a target. Give them a couple of power weapons in the squad, but don't completely kit them out.
Also, 5x Special weapons/Power weapon+SS on bike is awesome, too.

Back in the day when Rapid Fire only shot to 12" on the move, my go-to was to give everybody in the unit a STormbolter, along with a 30 pt commander with a storm bolter, to have this nice mobile unit of dakka that could shoot where I want, when I wanted it.
Not sure how needed it is today, as I've set the Marines aside for a while to try other armies, but, it's a CHEAP investment that never failed to bring the dakka, knocking out opposition troops.

Can't go wrong with the GravCav command squad. Load them up with 4 Grav guns, and Apoth, slap them all on bikes and you have a pretty scary unit right there

Don't field them like that, just that simple. Tbh command squads are a bit sh!t when your not dark angels or one of the other specialist codex chapters. In those chapters they simply do morr for you. The best you could manage with a squad would be take the apothecary and special weapons, thas about it. (you can also mount them on a bike but that's a fairly meh adjustment)
They can be out shot by sternguard and vanguard cc better. In armies like dark angels as an example we have special banners, we also have an improved power sword on the champ, finally we can make ours where terminator armor (which while not totally useful is a "nice to have")
