Another thread, different question:

How did mankind navigate through the entire galaxy so efficiently during the Golden Age of Technology? The Emperor was not broadcasting the Astronomicon...

The Warp was a quieter place, and I believe they made shorter jumps too.

Sir Samuel Buca is right. And as soon as they started making bigger jumps and exploring the warp they welcomed the daemons and entities that filled the warp and what insued was the Age of Strife. So much for all that cute technology.

"Glory to the Iron father!"

And after the eldar did their little circle-jerk-athon and really stirred crap up, things got a LOT more turbulent and "cloudy".

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

They also used "Warp Abacus" instead of navigators, which could calculate stable warp jumps automatically. There are also some archeotech used by the Lion to make large jumps quickly and safely.

It is likely that during the age of strife the tech base degraded and Navigators were created to fill in the gaps. They are far less resource intensive to produce then a ship.

It was actually the opposite: the birth of Slaaneesh calmed down the warp for a few centuries or millennia.
