Hey,
I am new to playing 40k as necrons and have got confused trying to work out how the monolith works, can an expert please help?
I hope someone can fill in (and understand) the table I made of options the monolith has available, and how to play the rules for it.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Shoot Partical Whip---------Shoot Dimension Door-----Beam in men through portal-------Shoot flayer arcs------
If the monolith arrives by deep strike.......................| ?????????????? ?????????????? ????????????? ?????????
If the monolith moves it's full 6" (?) movement......|
If the monolith remains stationary............................|
Edit: Oops.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised. |

Well the table is confusing but a bit of the answers can be answered from the FAQ alone in that a Monolith is a heavy vehicle
and there for can be figured out by the BRB
However IIRC one of those weapons is ordinance so prepare to snap
secondly i have no clue about the door.

Thanks, I will try to clarify what my questions were... basically what option combinations does the monolith have available to it. It is the combination of actions which confuses me, because of the variety of special rules this model has.
E.g., You deep strike the monolith and the FAQ/errata says you can walk men out of it with no problems. However, does this count as 'firing' the dimension door (as the 'door' itself is a two part special rule, with one part as a weapon which sucks people in and the other as a portal to bring in guys). If it does count as 'firing' to walk out, does that mean no ordinence from the whip that round? However I assume you fire everything else on regular BS.
It's a really complicated model if you think about all the options it has, and unfortunatly the rules are scattered accross multipal books and FAQ correction notes. I was hoping someone who uses a monolith often could just explain what the darn thing can and cannot do!

IIRC dimension door is a strange thing in that it is not a weapon or a gun but an ability so they can use it regardless or something. however shooting wise you can fire everything at full BS as you are a heavy HOWEVER that doesn't stop ordnance weapon from making you snap everything else when firing it As well the firing arks on the corner weapons make it very hard to shoot more than 3 of em. Edit: SO E.g you DS shoot a particle whip and snap shot 2 or 3 gauss at 1 unit and maybe pop out some dudes or suck some one in.

Aye it's the dimension door which is the main thing I am having trouble getting my head around.
Page 71
Vehicles & Ordnance Weapons
"Unlike other units, vehicles can move and fire with Ordnance weapons. However, a vehicle that fires an Ordnance weapon can only make Snap Shots with it's other weapons that turn."
This makes me think that it can deep strike OR move 6" then fire it's Particle Whip and Snap Fire the Gauss.
Alternatively it can teleport units in, move 6", then fire at normal BS with Gauss and finally suck in anyone close enough to the portal? Giving up the big blast marker main gun to make the dimension door work in either (not both) ways during one turn.
I just can't work out if like you said, the door is an 'ability' or a 'weapon'.
