Hello all.

So I just finished listening to UE, and while I think it is one of the best in the series, it left me with some questions.

1. Is it just me or does Curze seem to be to good at killing/deception/fighting ?

2. Since the spear is supposed to heal and john lost his status as a perpetual, does that mean vulkan regained his sanity but is no longer a perpetual?

3. If the spear can cure insanity and the mind, does that mean you could theoretically 'heal' Horus?

4. Any books/novels/short stories that continue the story? Like what does Curze do next, what becomes of Narek, more details on the pharos etc.

Thank you all

1. Context is everything. Any primarch could beat any other primarch given the correct circumstances. There is no primarch 'power scale' and there never will be. Curze had free reign of a huge city that was in a state of panic. He was very much in his element and it shows.

2. Probably. Sounds like a good theory.

3. I highly doubt it. The grip of chaos is too deep. Vulkan's insanity was one of intense trauma, not chaos.

4. Not yet. They're coming. Give it time , the story really Hasn't even been out that long.

I was asking about Curze since it seems kinda weird that Roboute was almost killed by 10 space marines when primarchs are supposed to have great speed, skill and Roboute's apparent tactical assessment abilities...and Curze managed to do so much.

Even if Roboute was close quarters, it just seems like he took way too much damage from a couple of bolts...I mean if it was that easy to kill a primarch all of them should have been dead during the great crusade (well...except Vulkan lol ).

Also if Roboute analyzes everything, and notices every little detail: How come he didn't recognize that the Ultramarine captain/Alpha legionnaire wasn't who he said he was by the sound of his voice, or does the helmet change a voice THAT much? And how come he didn't notice the trap of Curze with the grenades?

I mean...here you have 2 great primarchs walking into a room rigged with grenades and they don't notice a thing? Of course, you could argue that they were too angry and too fixated on killing Curze, to notice the trap...but still, seems weird imo.

Guilliman was unarmed, unarmored, in his private sanctuary, being attacked by marines who not only specialize in disguise, but were certainly trained and armed specifically for the purpose of taking down Guilliman. The Alpha Legion invented the "marine killer" bolts, I have no doubt they had something special for primarchs. And yes, helmets do change a marine's voice that much, especially when they want it changed.

Whereas Curze was fully equipped and very much in his element. Striking from the shadows in a huge city as everyone around him panics. Things couldn't have been going more his way if he tried.

As for the door trap, that's the same thing as asking, "How come Angron couldn't break through Dorn's wall with his fist? That seems weird." Or, "How come Dorn's wall couldn't stop Angron from breaking through With his fist? That seems weird." As I said in my first post, context is everything and any primarch could beat any other primarch given the right circumstances. Complaining that one primarch could or couldn't beat another is pointless.

I haven't read the book in question, but one thing you always have to bear in mind with Gulliman and the Ultramarines in general is that they are the perfect soldiers... if the enemy conforms to their way of war. They are the experts at fighting enemies they know, but things like being betrayed by their 'own brothers' is not something they account for, even in the Heresy.

I believe there's a scene in Know No Fear (I think it's that one) where, just before a Word Bearer attacks an Ultramarine, he explains about a 'new type of war' where Space Marine fights Space Marine and the Ultra just doesn't understand until it's too late and the Word Bearer has pulled a weapon on him.

So like everything with the Ultramarines, they're fine so long as there's a precedent that they can analyse, work from and plan for, but when its something unexpected, they are slow to react. So to Gulliman, a squad of infiltrators planning to attack a Primarch is so unexpected the thought won't even have crossed his mind, even if he know's he's dealing with traitors, it's simply too out-of-the-blue for him to prepare or even look for signs of it.
