Auspicious Daemonic Herald

I'm getting back into WHFB and I have a huge daemon collection from playing it in both games. One of the units I've always really liked was Screamers because of their slashing attacks and being flying. Now that they have a new army book I was wondering if they still playable or if I would just be seriously gimping my self to take them.

They are very fast, great at killing warmachine (although for this role the standard 3 man squad is more expensive than 5 furies which can accomplish the same task). But at 2 wounds a piece, they are resilient to chaff clearing options, like archers.

What furies can't do however is kill monsters, the screamers can definitely peel some wounds off your enemies expensive creatures with the lamphreys bite rule. The standard 120 point squad will inflict on average 2 wounds to a DOC Deamon Prince.

Then there are the slashing attacks, which are decent at inflicting a few wounds or clearing chaff while in transit to one of the two above roles, although I wouldnt take them for this purpose.

Overall, I would take them definitely in an all Tzeentch list, and you can;t go too wrong with a single 3 man squad for deployment shenanigans and to peel a few wounds off your opponents army. Many would argue furies do what they can do better.

Aftermath can be calculated.

My experience with them has actually been really good. They can hit things just by moving, and can take off wounds from larger targets, as well as warmachines. They're also hard as hell to actually pin down. They can avoid front arcs like nothing, and the enemy has penalties to shooting at them, so they'll typically stay alive until you decide to send them after something.

They are excellent. I just played a large event a few weeks ago, placed in upper 20% and they were excellent in my all TZ/Khorne list. I took 3 units of 3. Here's what they did:

Game 1: chased after warmachines, up against TK Arkhan+ light council. they got a skullapult and a casket. Then started getting into rear of other combats.

Game 2: I took a hard loss, started drinking to wipe memory of that game out before it set in.

Game 3: lizardmen. I got them into a skinks, and those flame template warmachines dudes, and won, one unit got into a steg and did 4 wounds to it. before dying.

Game 4 vs nurgle doc. They have hatred vs nurgle, and with the +1 to hit spell from metal. they excellet and eating his furies, his lone beasts and doing 3 wounds on Epididumus which made him play keep away.

Game 5: skaven. I put them face up into a horde of giant rats, and won. Put them into blocks of slaves, killing the warlock and won. Granted I needed treason to get the break test failures. Then they started hitting the rears.

Other notes, slashing attacks typically end up being 5-6 wounds per game, nothing to write home to mom about, but I'll take it. I tend to keep one unit within 12" of my loc for lore attribute chances. I think in the 5 games I only spawned 3 more screamers.
