Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you take the Manticore from IA1 - 145pts base - you can then swap the Manticore Missile for Storm Eagle rockets - god knows why you would though - and then you get a 160pt Manticor the DOES NOT have to fire indirectly. Win?

But then again... Why the hell are you not taking Manticore Missiles? (I'm probably biased b/cause I play against a lot of marine lists...) Other than the 36" minimum range - which you can think of as " being able to fire directly past 36" " - they're a 300" ranged S9 AP2 7" blast. Never mind. Lack of barrage pretty much ruins this idea.

What book are you looking in. Last i remembered they were S9 AP 2 but no barrage. I used to take the 100 point manticore platforms with camo nets and sticking them on top of tall ruins so they could hit most of the map.

You are correct, they are AP2 barrage

Also should be noted the same trick could be used for Valkyries - get them for cheaper and w more troop capacity Until an update comes out I see no reason not to be able to do this.
