I'm starting to be converted to the slugga choppy boyz but I have two lists, let me know which you think is better!!

Open to all criticism and suggestions, want to a get a general opinion before I buy the models. The only thing I won't use is trukks. Main opponent will probably be grey knights . Both have played a lot in 5th and early 6th but are starting completely over. I have no idea what he will bring apart from at least one strike squad with psycannons. Thanks Dakkadakka!!

That said they both look equally bad/good... Sorry. There's not a whole lot of difference. You need something that can move. What happens when this faces Tau or Astra Militarum

First organize your presentation to make it easier for us to read. Also you must tell us how many points you're working with. Or possibly any model limitations you have. For instance maybe you don't have 6 dakkajets or whatever.

Example:

- 10 boyz + Nob PK BP + Big Shoota

I prefer list 2. Pain boy really buffs the boyz, but you won't get them across the board without a vehicle vs a shooty list.

Hey I updated the list . I have no models and am starting completely from scratch. What would I do to help this list against an AM or Tau player?

Well, with the new codex sluggas (because they are cheaper) will likely be the backbone of your list.

If you can find any old "Assault on Black Reach" sets from 5th edition, those are the one's to get. Since most folks bought that set, you should be able to pick them up around. They can also bolster your (or your buddy's) Space Marine list with the other half of the contents. It's a good start for the orks. (20 sluggas, 2 big shootas, 5 nobz, 3 deff koptas).

Also, everyone and their brother has orks lurking in their bitz bin. They are ubiquitous in the galaxy and vacuum cleaners of every wargammer.

Deffkoptas (I think) WERE really good with TL rokits. NOW they are 15 points cheaper..... wha-whaaaat?

Lobbas are pretty great (especially with an ammo runt or two on the lead gun).

AM, Eldar, Dark Eldar, and Tau are our worst foes. They eldar are just too fast often time to get into CQB. AM and Tau are just dead killy at range. That's why outflankers (IMHO) are crucial for take all comers lists.

My opinion is not yet formed on the weirdboy. Although he is 1million times better than he was.

Lobbas. Better in 7th. Mek Gunz in general, I am unimpressed by. Maybe ... MAYBE the traktor kannon.

Trukks are marginally better with new ramshackle

Tankbustas (which can be made yourself out of bits - so don't waste your boy budget) seem like they have gotten much better. MAINLY because they're cheaper. Not footy and unlike any other unit to my knowledge can MULTIPLY x2 the MOST IMPORTANT VICTORY POINT... first blood.

Flash gitz. I dunno yet. They are what we have for elites.

Burnas in a wagon or trukk are dead killy.

Lootas. Down in points is great. Move to heavy is a real bummer. Worth it if you don't have more important heavies.

Kanz were my favorite. Got a buff in 7th (not made of Explodium anymore). Buuut price increase and nerf to the kan klaw really bums me out.

Morka Gorka... i dunno yet. hate the model.

I love Shootas. Great units. I would try to get a Nob in the other squad as well. Mayeb do 15 boys and 15 boys. Still will be tough in 500 points to kill them all.

Why Lobba? Kannons are just as good if not better and cheaper. Or you could just double up lootas at this price and be better off.

I love lootas, I don't take them under 10 though. But at 500 I can see 5 in a squad being useful and not so much over kill.

Why did you switch them? I still think shootas are the way to go with orks even though they cost an extra point.

Since you are just starting out. One thing you have to worry about it, am I going to use them in bigger lists as well? You don't want to buy something for a smaller game and then not use them in a bigger game as well. I hope what I have said helps.

I have to disagree here. On foot I think Shootas are still going to be the backbone, in trukks or wagons I can see Sluggas filling that spot nice. But I do like to shoot more with my Orks so I am a little biased. I still think 20 Shootas in a BW can still be enough to make most cringe.

Doktor, I'm not sold on defkoptas I tend to shy away from less shots with higher strength. Even with twin linked, you'd have to take 3 or 4 to be effective hitting on 5's or 6's. If I always plan on foot slogging, even with higher point lists, would you still suggest slugga over shoota boyz? I highly agree with you on lobbas and am super excited to try them out. Yes for the lucky stick!! However, I plan on doing a foot slogging green tide running 120-150 boyz at 1850 so I sly away from any kind of deathstar, large or small (meganobz or bikers).

Balsak, I disagree about lobbas, they are barrage so they don't have to have line of sight, and when multiple fire, they don't have to fully scatter. Being strength 5, at 5 lobbas, you could kill 4-6 space marines on a direct hit (4 hits per template, 13-15 wounds, 4-6 would fail saves) however, I am drawn to shoota boyz. Here's a list usuing the pain boy with shoota boys. I could drop a lobba and use a lvl 2 weird boy instead.

You have been lucky getting 4 marines under a template. I get one two usually if it doesn't scatter. But hey if they work for you then good. Keep them.
