They were both starter box exclusive units. However, I was expecting this ork update to release Deffcoptas as an actual product. Nope.avi.

Turns out the orks don't have deffcoptas available at all anymore. Not even that old metal one.

And now that Dark Vengence has been removed, I'm left to expect that the next Chaos Space Marine update won't see any replacements either.

Does anyone know if the new ork codex still even has deffcoptas in it? If so, we may just be expected to buy old Dark Vengeance sets. Oh, that reminds me, Chaos Chosen are in this basket, too. In fact, every single Chaos unit in the set was an exclusive save the Lord and recently Helbrute. Just because they gave the Helbrute a kit doesn't mean anything else should be expected. Games Workshop is infamous for this gak.

I thought cultists were sold in small packs of 5 or 10? iirc, it was a mix of melee and ranged though. The lack of deff coptas is pretty silly on GWs part as they're a cool unit that you'd think would sell really well. I picked some up and have been hoarding them despite not being an Ork player. I flicked through my "copy" of the new Ork dex and yeah they're in it.

DeffKoptas are fast attack 30 point jetbikes (up to 5 per unit), 4-2-3-5-2-2-2-7-4+ with twin-linked big shoota and choppa and some special rules and options. Also, I love the look of them... many (newer, heavier) Ork units I don't like but these are great ; )

Packs of 5. I'm more referring to the cultist champion and special weapons, along with all of the other cultist models that weren't put in that box of 5. My point is broader than just cultists, I'm referring to starter exclusives that were never given any other support.

Yeah the cultists were done poorly, I forgot the specifics since at the time I saw it and thought "GW... /facepalm" and never thought about them again. I bought 2 DV's because they were great value form a US discounter and I'm very happy with my 40 cultists ; ) Chosen were mostly chopped up to make special chars too, really nice models though the static posing was a little hard to work with it was definitely worthwhile. DV is coming back though supposedly which helps.

And it's trivially easy to get deffkoptaz from eBay, and at much cheaper price than you'd be charged with a brand new multi-part plastic.

He's right, you know. As the years go by, general breakage will see deffcoptas become more and more valuable.

So you're saying GW want people to rely on eBay?

We don't know what they want (other than money) so what they want has nothing to do with it.
Buying deffcopters at a price that beats the current GW pricing on other equal items is very easy. I can't really see the point of saying then that you can't get them.

It's not about price. This could turn into the SOB codex situation all over again...

Saying "oh you can buy them on eBay, pirate it or whatever" is not really a valid excuse. GW have had 2 editions of the game to produce a model outside of the starter box for them (The old Gorkamorka special character does not count) and have failed to do so.

Deffcoptas are currently a finite resource. Hows little Timmy supposed to get his hands on some? Will the staffer tell his mum to go look on eBay?

And thats why i have 10 of them lol. I want to convert them into bikers since warbiker spamming is a thing now, but becuase theyre limited i kinda dont want to.

Then again i see very little use for a deffkopta now except for a mobile Bigshoota platform. The rokkits arent as powerful anymore since AP3 cant pop anything in 1 shot, and S5 can still rear-armor anything just as easy when theres 3 of them vs 1 S8.
Really wish the Buzzsaw was a Killsaw. Would take them every single list and hunt the gak out of vehicles lol

Wow, I guess people would rather GW release an official kit for $30 apiece.

Weird.

Are you kidding me? 30 points for a highly mobile and fairly resilient TL rokkit doesn't appeal to you? They were half-decent in the previous codex, and they were 50% more expensive then.

Oh i loved them when they could actually kill vehicles. Its not cheaper if you still want to reliably kill a non-opentopped vehicle as before a single deffkopta for 45pts had potential to pop things. i usually fielded 2 solo deffkoptas because of this. Now, theyre either just an AP3 platform against big bugs/marines/other 3+ armor save targets (which will paste crisis suits, so thats kinda nifty) or a reliable damage chart causer, which forces vehicles to snap fire or get stuck or lose a weapon. Unless its a lowly Rhino, i want that thing dead not stuck.

Average vehicle has 3hp outside landspeeders, piranha, and a few FW things (far as i know anyway). Now you need 5 of these koptas to reliably glance/pen one to death since they cannot cause an Explode! result anymore. Thats 150pts.

Im not arguing theyre worthless, im just saying theyre not the same role they were before. No longer the cheap, mobile as gak anti-vehicle platform due to the new vehicle damage chart, but rather anti 3+ armor/T4 pasting/mobile long range anti infantry with bigshootas.

See, I never went the single kopta assassin route because it was so luck-dependent. First you have to even hit (not super unlikely with TL BS2, but not what I'd call trusty), then you have to get mildly lucky on the penetration roll, then you have to get quite lucky on the damage table roll. I didn't really use them in 6th at all, but when I used them in 5th I tended to run squads of at least 3. That's how I think they'll be useful in this codex, although I am actually thinking of running 5. Yeah, it's a lot of points, and they can't get lucky and one-shot a vehicle, but they're mobile enough to have their pick of facings and can glance things to death, often in a single volley. They're pretty dang resilient too, with 4+ armor and cover (sure they'll have to snap shot, but Orks don't mind snap shots nearly as much as any other faction) protecting 2W at 5T. Stick 5 of those in a unit, and your opponent will have to devote significant firepower to take it down, assuming you remember to keep it way the heck far away from heavy flamers.

I'll have to actually play some games to see if they can pull their weight, but I am excited about their possibilities. I think (as before) they will outperform buggies, which are still only really worth it if you need high-mobility Skorchas. As far as running them with big shootas, I think Warbikes are probably going to outperform them. Same slot, same durability, significantly lower price, and much better in melee. The only advantage for the koptas is the longer range on the gun.

Give them a couple buzzsaws, and while they are more expensive, they become major threats to vehicles. Jink doesn't affect the saws, they can turboboost to threwaten vehicles fast, and 2W T5 with a jink save requires more than a trivial investment of firepower.

I used 5 koptas as a retinue to bikerboss with a bosspole to get scout and h&r. Don't know if it's still a thing. Yep, and single koptas did good. I guess, they're still not bad but we've got awesome bikers and buggies now! Don't know if koptas are really needed.

There are enough 3rd party models that I don't really care if I can't get access to an official plastic deff kopta model.

I agree though its completely stupid to have an excellent quality plastic deffkopta and not fight to find a way to get it into the store, and selling.

Its completely ridiculous to me.

Just wait for the Speed Freaks supplement with plastic buggies, trakks, skorchas, koptas and the new Biker Boss/Painboy/Mek kit, slated for 9th edition!

Soooo dumb. Drop characters because you don't have models for them, but include rules for units that have models, but refuse to sell them.

Or possibly Deffkoptas may make a return in the new Stormclaw box...
