So im reading the rules over and over in preparation for a tournament.
I noticed that (I know, like after a year of playing...) you can split certain support platoons up between your infantry squads. For example my HMGs can break up and split between my infantry platoons.
Instantly I can see the benefits if you are on the defensive. But what if im wanting to get into combat? Am I safer to have them separate support or should they be integrated?
Just wondering what would be better to do.

Separating then out can still benefit you offensively. HMGs can stay behind when you decide to assault with your infantry teams and fire instead. Letting them stay in place and fire at full ROF can help you force your target to go-to-ground which will make your assault more likely to succeed.
I can certainly be helpful to issue them to other teams, but it also depends on your play style.
Attaching them out can also reduce the number of platoons for game purposes, so that is another consideration.

Im glad you addressed that last part. Splitting them puts me at the perfect number of platoons which is a bonus.
So I may give it a try in my trials and see how it goes then. They still have been vital to my games but the are normally concentrated in one area. Which has always proven far more than effective. So spreading that effectiveness across the field could be useful.
Cheers mate.
So overall you would recommend it for an assault based army?

I usually do, but others might have a different opinion. I find that it helps with getting that right number of platoons and also gives me a couple extra stands for morale purposes.

Awesome cheers.
Now one more question (if you dont mind) Just thinking back I dont remember it mentioning what happens to the command team of that platoon. Does he just get removed or is he added to one of the platoons?

Don't have my book on me (and it's been a while) but I think he just disappears. I usually don't upgrade the command team because of that.

Page 260 of the rulebook.
Basically when making combat attachments you have two options:
1) Split up to half of the platoon to other eligible platoons and keep the platoon command team.
2) Assign ALL the teams to other platoons, with no single platoon receiving more than half of the teams and the command team is removed.
If you are trying to lower the platoon count of an army, you have to go with option 2. Hope that helps and I didn't miss an FAQ...

That ALL teams really helped. Those command teams I have always hit on 2+ in combat so i can never have enough of them.
Thanks heaps for that bit.

Depending in the army you might spend some points to upgrade the team to SMG or give hem Fausts, stuff like that. If you plan on attacking out all the teams (and losing the command team) then those are wasted points that you could spend elsewhere.

The command team has no upgrades. Early War Japs are rather basic in terms of weapons etc. But being a sword team actually improves my force more than anything.
But only if its standard. If not I can fit that observer team back in my list.

That makes it easy. Those couple points can be agonizing!
"I will probably attach them out, and I can use those points over here. But if I don't attach them out I could really really use that extra Panzerfaust in my list....argh!"

It doesnt help that the tourney is 1450 points!
My whole army had to be drastically reworked! Its a game changing experience that 50 point difference haha.
