Hey folks,

I am working on a list for a tournament I won't win (I dont play enough to think I have a shot), but I still want to be competitive as I can. I am working my eldar army and one thing I dont like is putting a farseer in a waveserpent and not being able to cast until he is on the ground. I had a game the other day where he actually never set foot outside the waveserpent (As he would have been killed) so I didnt cast anything.

Anyhow, I know the beast star is a popular unit with the Baron and a Farseer. That really isnt my deal. I actually prefer to use models I like and the beast models are expensive and I dont like them and I would think the new codex will put a damper on them anyways. One more I do really like in the Dark Eldar range are reavers. I was reading today that you can cast witchfire spells even when turbo boosting or jinking. So that got me thinking a nice sized unit of reavers with a Farseer would be a decent option. Being able to move 36 inches and still cast spells seems a decent thing and I was told the tourney is going to have a decent amount of LOS blocking terrain.

I realize I havent see any lists on the threads with the outfit, which generally means it isnt a viable choice in a tourney setting, so if some folks could give me their thoughts, I would appreciate it. (Note I would also have to take a DE HQ as well, I dont know if the Baron would work in this situation).

Thanks.

Reavers are very good this edition, as they are the only bike unit that can Turbo-boost and not only not lose any damage, but gain a lot more! Reavers are the prefect escort for a Jetseer if you don't want to cheese and play a council and don't want to run a mantle seer due to ignore cover. The allied detachment should look something like this:

Haemonculi. Crucible of Malediction. Liquifier Gun. 80pts

5 Wracks, Liquifier. 60pts

Raider Disintegrator Cannon, torment grenade launcher. 65pts.

5 Reavers + Arena Champ with Venom Blade and 2 Blasters.

The farseer should be made out simply with the Jetbike and the Spear. Stay away from Caltrops, if you take them you will force yourself to bladevane every turn to get your points back, but with Blasters you have the option to do AT as well.

The Farseer should roll everything on telepathy, so you get Psy-shriek which is great with that speed. First turn deploy the Haemonculi in the Reaver unit so they gain FNP, then have him jump into Raider. 3+ Cover Save T 4 models with FNP is *almost* survivable for Dark Eldar!

Now the rest of the allied detachment is were it gets weird, but more importantly, anti-cheese. I will put money on that this tournament will have at least 1 player who is spamming psykers for Daemonology, or running a Seer Council or Screamer star, this cheap trick is the hard counter. Crucible of Malediction forces psykers within 3d6 to take a leadership test or be REMOVED FROM PLAY, NO SAVES, while the Raider forces models within 6'' to have a -1 to their leadership. Now if you get that (Deepstrike maybe?) close to a Screamer Star with 3 Heralds in, that is 3 tests at Ld 6, he is bound to lose some. Works just as well against Warlocks, and if they don't have any Psykers, Hey, you have 2 Str 4 AP D6 Flamers!

Good luck, just give me a shout if you need any more advise.

Alex, thanks for the response. See if you can advise me a bit more. Most of my eldar units are Iyanden. I was thinking the same thing with the Hemi. HOwever I hate just taking the Hemi, so I started looking at what I could give him to make him useful and I saw the webway. Wraithguard with D-scythes and Wraithknights coming out of a webway dont seem bad? Any sort of lists that revolve around that idea?

I am pretty sure only Dark Eldar can use the Webway Portal, it was in the old FAQ. Even if it has been taken down, i'd avoid a fight and not go there.

If you are taking Lyanden that means you are taking Spirit Seers? That is perfect for the Crucible Idea, as some of them are bound to roll Horrify, which pretty much amounts to a dead Psyker. If you are running Lyanden, then you won't need the Blasters as you have enough AT. Maybe try Caltrops.
