1. dont paint dark elf witch elves.

.... and thats it.

but seriously..how? how do you paint them? its the flesh.. i like to think i'm pretty decent at flesh tones. i can paint faces on miniatures well.

i'm not sure if its the pale tone with odd colour washes or the fact that there are bigger amounts of bare flesh to cover..but i just cant get a smooth finish i'm happy with. i've tried rakarth flesh with purple and blue washes with rakarth flesh layers, i've tried rakarth flesh with pallid wych flesh layers, i've tried pallid flesh base with purple and blue washes.. ive even tried purple base building up to slaanesh grey layers(this is the one i'm most happy with) but nothing seems to work. am i not using thin enough layers? maybe i need to do more thinner layers.. im not sure. if anyone has any tips on good DE flesh, or can link me to a good tutorial, it'd be much appreciated.

If you're having trouble getting even layers and transitions, it's likely your paint is still too thick. Use some water (or better yet, acrylic medium) to thin the paint down to the consistency of milk.

Then just use several thin layers instead of one thick one. That's how I did my witches and they came out pretty good.

Yeah i'm going to give using more layers a go. I do thin my paints usually but i guess its easier when youre doing armour etc and only small amounts of skin tone
