Subject: 7th Ed - New Orks vs Plague Marines 2000 points - all infantry

We played an unconventional game of all infantry, no bases over terminator size.
ORKS
Warboss mega armor, big shines shooty gun
Big Mek in mega armor. SAG
Pain boy
Elites
4 meganobz
Troops
30 Shoota boys, 'eavy armor, nob w/ big choppa
30 Shoota boys, 'eavy armor, nob w/ big choppa
30 slugga choppa's, 'eavy armor, nob with power claw
Heavy support
15 lootas
LoW
Ghazghkull Thraka
CHAOS SPACE MARINES
Typhus
Sorcerer lvl3 psyker, burning brand
Troops
35 zombies
4 squads of various sizes of plagues marines with plasma guns
Heavy support
2 obliterators
2 obliterators
2 obliterators
Rolled hammer and anvil and escalation objectives.
Both Army's practically lined up on their starting limit of advance.
I placed the big Mek with the lootas a little further back, giving them slow and purposeful for mobility.
Pain boy tagged along with slugga choppa's
OUTCOME AND ANALYSIS
Orks lost. I drew bad objective cards. Was only able to get one point from objectives.
Lootas, had one good volley of fire and dwindled typhus' squad of marines down to three. Afterwards, typhus successfully cast 'gets hot' on the lootas. SAG rolled high strength every turn but was never able to scatter right or get a direct hit. Seems it was the only time I rolled 4's-6's.
Boys in groups of 30 are just not as effective. I think 20 would be a little better. It seems at thirty, as soon as I had opportunity to get good shooting from the shootas, 10-15 were not in range.
Also, due to restrictions from terrain, movement was not as fluid. Orks foot sloggin was still not as fast. I also came to the conclusion that 30 boys is actually not that effective at combat. I did end up getting into combat with all my units, but once again I charged, survived overwatch, but due to terrain not all boys can obviously get into combat.
Roughly 10 boys do not make in into combat.
For Orks, it's crucial to get into combat and make as much damage on that first turn. But when 1/3 of your group doesn't make it in its devestating. Thats potentially 30 attacks that don't make it in. Because of blight grenades I don't get that +1 on the charge. That sucked.
Orks are still hampered by their low initiative. Only getting hits on unwieldy guys first. It almost feels like I'm charging to get killed faster.
Mob rule! I got lucky with it but I did have to roll on it several times. More often that I thought was fair. I rolled 1 hit on 4 occasions, 3 of which failed to wound. Lost two guys to it once. Other than that I was losing 1 guy when I super failed.
POSITIVE NOTES
Big choppa's on some nobs. Getting basically +3 strength helped out well. Allowed me to defeat 4 challenges from plague marine champions.
'Eavy armor was a critical factor. It's just so expensive. But allowed survival in circumstances I wouldn't have been able to live thru.
Having a painboy in a squad of boys wasn't bad but didn't really make a huge difference. Of course I didn't make as many FnP rolls as I would have liked.
NEGATIVE NOTES
Meganobz are too slow. Hurt not having an invulnerable save. I guess that's why we have two wounds and terminators have one.
Lost the meganobz to oblitators and plasma guns in turn 1.
Ghaz is ridiculously slow as well. He was able to destroy a squad of plague marines by himself but it too 2 turns. He took a plasma shot in his charge but maintained 3 wounds for the duration of combat.
OVERALL
Orks are not going to do well against high toughness high initiative armies. It's brutal to have to wound on 5's when you have to also hit on 5's in shooting phase and 4's in CC.
'Eavy Amror on boys is money.
Not sure if bringing 30 boys is efficient. We might be better off with more squads of 20.
CC is slow, Orks low initiative, lack of strength but high numbers are going to keep you locked in combat for a long time. This lowers the threat on key players like obliterators sitting farther back plinking your unengaged units back field.
Mob rule, I don't think it should have gotten nerfed. If I hadn't been wearing 'heavy armor I would have taken more casualties regardless of me rolling well on how many guys of my own I hit.

Big mek cannot take mega armor and a shokk attack gun together.

Been out of the game for awhile, trying to find time to get back into it. |

Yeah, I read the limitations incorrectly. But it didn't make a difference what so ever as an advantage

Tough luck on that one. I think the no vehicle restriction hurt youas well as your dice.

A trukk or Battlewagon might have helped get Meganobs into cc. I would probably put some extra points into boarding planks.

I honestly don't know about vehicles for Orks. Trukk is a death trap, and the Battlewagon is too expensive now especially since it lost the deffrolla.
Seems like either walk, or take bikes is the future for Greenskins.

This was a fun, only infantry match, my first with Orks and the new codex.
I watched a Frontline gaming bat rep with new Orks and his Trucks didn't do so hot.
Regardless of my bad objective card draws. The boys had a tough time against plague marines

I prefer such composition for footslogging boyz.
30 sluggas + painboss. Full squad to maximise use of fnp.
20 shootas. Cause range's not that great and whenever you come into it, the more guyz you have, the more won't be able to shoot. That's why 20 seems appropriate. Squad's large enough to take some losses and not huge enough to waste fire potential too much. Besides, 3*20 is almost alwayz better than 2*30.
