He seems out of place in the long range tau book, but if used in a suit army that is in your opponents face he could be useful.

Essentially take him in a 20 man kroot squad with a shaper with a pulse carbine, and at least one kroot hound.

That comes to including aun'shi 254 points, more if you add more than one kroot hound or add a krootox rider. It is also important to note due to the inherent risk of close combat for any tau unit aun'shi should not be your warlord, if he is i would roll on the personal traits table.

It seems crazy but might mess up soft targets. I want to run one and will work to assemble of one. Tell me what you think.

The west is on its death spiral.

It was a good run.

What good does the shaper with the pulse carbine do, other than adding to the cost of the unit?

I also don't see what Aun'shi provides that a normal ethereal wouldn't in this case.

Aun shi is close combat and challenge oriented, a shaper adds 2 more attacks and it has access to an assault 2 pinning weapon

That's not really adding much though. 2 chances to pin, which is already a low chance to have any effect as it is. The shaper is basically 3 kroot that get 1 gun. Aun'shi is CC oriented, but he's not good at CC. He dies to anything S6 flat out and the major problem is anything that unit charges that's stronger than IG will mulch through Kroot.

Also you're talking about a unit without assault weapons. So in order to use them for CC you'll need to give up their shooting which is better than their CC abilities.

Kroot are WS4. Still they'd win in CC against cultist. However if he has anything tougher alongside them, the Kroot stand little chance even with stubborn.

I've used them in CC a few times. Mostly to finish off small units of GEQ in ruins. Anything else and it feels like they're being thrown away.
