If a unit has several Get Hot weapons, do all those hits have to be rolled separately?

Let's assume a SP Sternguard squad opens fire with 8 Boltguns loaded with Vengeance rounds, which have the Get Hot special rule. Do each of those veterans roll separately? What if 3 sternguards died on their first shot (terrible rolling indeed) then they would not be able to fire a second shot. Meaning if you would've rolled the shots all together you're basically firing 3 more shots than you're allowed.

Anybody know how this works?

They should be rolled separately (or each guy has his own coloured dice).

If at half range, you still get two shots, even if one of them kills the gunner.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Even if the first shot kills him?

Alright, then my forgefiend with 3 ecto plasma cannons can still fire his three shots even if he's killed by one?

Yep, Despite the fact realistically you are firing two shots in rapid succession, meaning if the first shot melts you you would be unable to fir the second shot, game-wise, the two shots happen simultaneously.

As above, a model's shots are all resolved simultaneously.

You may want to roll them separately to avoid taking wounds on more than one member of the squad that they shouldn't.

I.E: let's say you have 8 gets hot weapons rapid firing.

- Roll one shot from each model

- separate the 1s from the hits, count your hits so you remember how many you've hit, ofcourse.

You now have a "wounded" and "alive" dice pool.

- Roll the second shot for the wounded and alive pools.

Any rolls to hit of a 1 on the wounded pool mean that a single marine has suffered 2 wounds. Any rolls of a 1 on your alive pool means a marine has suffered 1 wound.

This is just a way of speeding up the process. You can roll each one separately if you wish. You can also just assign colored dice to how many wounds a model has taken.

>Start with white dice

>Any rolls of 1, get changed to red dice

>Any rolls of 1 get changed to blue dice

white = 0 wounds
red = 1 wound
blue = 2 wounds.. ect

Or just use different colored dice for each shooter. If both red dice roll a 1, then that shooter takes two Gets Hot hits. Much simpler than the above.

Depends on how fast you like to roll your dice. I've seen someone spam vengeance rounds before and rolling different colored dice for each model or each model separately can be slow.

The simplest and fastest method with 2 colors of dice available is to simply roll one volley at a time and every time someone takes a wound, swap out a dice for a different colored one.

If in the second volley one of the colored dice rolls a 1, then you know that one model has suffered 2 wounds. Any colored dice that that don't roll 1s mean that a model has suffered one wound. And then the remaining dice is gets hot as normal.

Sonicaucie/don_mondo: can either of you point to a place in the rules that allows you to do this?

I can't find anything that would allow you to roll this way.

They are offering House Rules to speed up the process while keeping the probabilities the same, they don't need to support it via Rules.

If you mean can I point to a rule that says to do this procedure when firing multiple 'Gets Hot' weapons from a single unit, then nope, sure cannot. Cause no such rule exists.
But if you mean can I show you how it breaks no rules and satisfies the requirements of the shooting and Gets Hot rules, then yes, I can.

Two main requirements for multiple Gets Hot in a single unit. 1. Fire (resolve) all of the same weapon together. 2. Allocate Gets Hot wounds to the model that fired that particular weapon that rolled a 1.
Example: My Platoon Command Squad (IG) declares it is going to fire all four plasma guns at a target within rapid fire range of all four guns. I pick up THREE dice each of red, black, blue and green. Place one of each color next to a shooting model. Roll the other 8 (ie two of each color). Say I get four hits, roll to woulnd, apply wounds, etc. I have now satisfied the shooting rule for resolving all plasma guns shooting together. Of my non-hits, I had a green 1 and a red 1. So I now apply a Gets Hot would to the model with the green die next to it and a wound to the model with the red die next to it. Et voila, I have satisfied the Gets Hot requirement. And if both 1s were red dice, the only the model with the red die by it would take Gets Hot woulnds, both of them.

Good enough? I mean sure, you can roll them one model at a time. But why?
