Hello all,

I'm looking into starting up a Kult of Speed, and was wondering what the best way to field buggies?

I'm leaning more towards Wratrack Skorchas because I'm already planning on fielding Deffkoptas with TL Rokkits, and a large-ish squad of Warbikers. This also means I'm limiting myself to one squad, but would love to take 5 of them to allow for more kit bashing/converting good times.

Also, any suggestions for how to build out the rest of the army from there, while keeping it a fluffyish Kult of Speed from the deserts of Angelis?

My plan is rocket buggies, because you can't really ever have enough S8, and AP3 is decent for MEQ forces. Being able to Outflank means you have a decent chance of being able to tag side armor as well.

Skorchas are mostly anti-infantry, which isn't a role that Orks tend to lack in. I'll usually go for Kombi-skorchas on Warbiker Nobz (or Nob Bikers if I bother), as well as just about any character. Gets around low BS, can be used for Overwatch if necessary, and toasts Pathfinders and other low armor cover lurkers.

You have the bulk of Kult of Speed covered it seems:

Warbikers, Buggies and Deffkoptas. Get some Trukk Boys for troops (unless you're going Unbound), though nowadays I pretty much consider 'Eavy Armor necessary for Trukk Boys.

Given that everyone and their dog is running Gunline IG or Tau locally i may try outflanking skorcha buggies to give them a warm hug...

Other than that, rokkits

The Viletide: Daemons of Nurgle/Deathguard: 7400 pts
Disclples of the Dragon - Ad Mech - about 2000 pts
GSC - about 2000 Pts
Rhulic Mercs - um...many...
Circle Oroboros - 300 Pts or so
Menoth - 300+ pts

That's a good point about anti infantry not being a huge requirement.

Also, does anyone know if you can tank shock and shoot in the same turn/at different targets?

I'm thinking out flanking, then tank shocking gun lines seems like all kinds of fun.

Also, is it better to use the Deffkoptas scout move, or to outflank them to get a bead on side armor?

you can not do anything after Tank Shocking or Ramming.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
If you are gonna run the Deffkoptas, outflank them, drop your bombs without being hit back, then let them die. Because that is what happens to outflanking units.

Incorrect; the only things that a vehicle cannot do after Tank Shocking are to move flat out or to embark/disembark passengers.

That said, Buggies do not have the "Tank" vehicle type so they cannot actually do a Tank Shock.

Hardly. They can't take a ram.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

Yup, my next plan was to take wrecking balls, but I keep forgetting they don't have access to the full vehicle upgrade list. However, know that I can fire all ranged weapons after ramming/tank shocking, it may be worth it to have wrecking balls, rams, and rokkits on my trukks, so they can try vehicle hunting after dropping off their dudes.

But yeah, it seems the consensus is rokkit buggies?

Yes, rokkits seem the best option for an all-comers army. Zoom to within 24" of a juicy target, staying in some cover if possible, and launch them rokkits.

Big shootas have longer range, and so don't benefit so much from the buggy mobility as they don't need to get as close.

And skorchas only seem a good idea if you'll be able to zoom into the enemy backfield and burn up lightly armoured targets, which many armies don't have. Potentially very useful for individual games, but probably not for an all-comers army.

Consider the trakk upgrade if there's likely to be a lot of difficult terrain on your gaming tables.

You pretty much don't need flamers. The buggies blow up at STR4 just move them in next to infantry and dare them to blow it up. Take rokkits and hunt armor.

I am the kinda ork that takes his own washing machine apart, puts new bearings in it, then puts it back together, and it still works.

Big missed opportunity IMHO. Squads of flimsy buggies crashing headfirst into enemy infantry? Can't think of anything orkier than that...

I have a feeling that GW may have wanted to avoid the rules nightmares that might occur when you have multiple vehicles in a unit performing simultaneous Tank Shocking. Lazy, but I can imagine a ton of potential problems that I can sympathize with GW for not wanting to try and address.

(Wait, I just remembered that Leman Russes can squadron up. Never mind. TOTAL huge missed opportunity here.)
