Someone on my local forum is selling his entire army, all evil. Since i only posses an elven army i figured i could expand.

For some reason i want to base the army off of the ringwraiths. I do not own the army specific codex, as to what allies and heroes i can use.

In addition to the 9 i could get an entire orc host, or a decent size uruk force. He has some haradrim but no specialty troop for those.

Can anyone give me some hints/ advice as to what i should invest in? And no i dont want to buy the entire force due to the price.

The orcs and uruks both come with heroes and banners, shamans, etc. i just dont know which one would be bet ter suited for my playing style ( the elven way, high cost troops with amazing stats)

Thanks in advance for your time and insights

If you want to use Ringwraiths (and why wouldn't you, they're awesome!) then Orcs are the natural choice from a background standpoint. They also offer a nice counterpoint to Elves, being a horde army that works simply by outnumbering the enemy in a wave of bodies.

Playing Mordor also opens up a lot of very cool options, they are one of the most versatile armies. By taking Mordor Uruks and Warg Riders you get all the bonus of Isengard, but also get access to Trolls slightly cheaper (I think), 'Wraitheses On Wingssss' (Fell Beasts), and Morannon Orcs, which are a better and fightier Orcs.

So i will look into the orcs. Here is what he has to offer in terms of mordor
Ringwraith, plus witchking on fellbeast
Over 100 random orcs
2 orc captains and banners
Sauron
Troll
Catapult
4 mordo uruks
7 wargriders ( are they mordor?)
Orc shaman

Like i said i have no idea how to play orcs or evil, it will be an experiment.

Any ideas what i should offer him in terms on money? The models are mostly painted. I have seen some pics and most are poor to average quality, some have been damaged.

And what would you take if you were in my place?

I am sorry about all the questions and again thank you for your time.

I think for that, I'd probably pay between £75-100, so 95-125 Euro, I reckon, maybe a little more (and if need be, you could knock off a few Orcs, anywhere from 50-75 Orcs should be fine for most games). Assuming you're wanting to play the Strategy Battle Game version and not the War of the Ring mass battle system, that lot would basically get you an army to go, you wouldn't really need to buy that much else.

The Warg Riders can be used in a Mordor list, and are very useful as a flanking and harassment unit.

If you want, I can throw together some rough lists for various points levels tomorrow using those models?

I wasnt planning on using this one for war of the ring, i got my 200 high elves that, i will be painting those for the next ten years or so. I digress...

I am not planning on taking everything, i am limited to $100, so about €70, give or take to include shipping (or gas)

So right now i am thinking the nine, couple orcs, warg riders, shaman, capts and banners. I dont know if i want the troll bc i have found them rather easy to slay in the past with my heros and they are pricy (plus he said its broken)

If you could make a sample list of a tournament set up around 500-750 that would be amazing. I guess now i have to get the new books lol.

Again thank you for the help. I have noticed that you are all over the lotr forum when it comes to giving advice and such. I take it you have been playing for a while. What do you usually run with in the lotr universe?

Ok, I'll try and get some lists together tomorrow. They'll be using the old points costs, but they're be the same give or take a little. I'll do 350, 500 and 750 using those units where possible.

To be honest, running an Orc horde backed up by captains, Shamans and banners and led by a Fell Beast will be pretty nasty, a lot of armies simply don't have the power to kill that many orcs. Trolls are nice, especially with the new monster rules, but if you let powerful heroes touch them then they will go down to the likes of Boromir/Gil-Galad/Dain ect.

I've actually been playing right since the game first came out, waaay back in 2004-ish I think. I have bits and pieces of most armies, but these days I generally run Gondor (WArriors of Minas Tirith with a lot of MT/Dol Amroth Cavalry), Dwarves (shield-wall with heroes) or High Elves (lots of Archers). For the bad guys, I tend to run a mix of Haradrim, Easterlings, Khandish and Corsiars, a Fallen Men list.

I started right before the two towers book came out, played until shortly after the war of the ring rules surfaced. Had to stop after that bc i moved to hawaii and no one played there.

I actually found my old mouth of sauron model, foot and mounted, figured he would be a good warband leader for the wargriders.

Dont rush with the lists, i am actually going on a weekend holiday and i dont know if i will have internet.

About the trolls, i usually had my heros handle them, elrond backed by gilgalad, or if i used my small mt force aragon with anduril

Completely unrelated: have you played wotr with your elven army? Bow strength is reduced but you use a fortune, galadrim bows, and then arwen and elrod with wilderness spell guide arrows, and all archers hit on a 1+, so automatically, plus you get an additional 2 attacks for each company. People hated that bc my 6 archer companies could dish out 72 guaranteed hits every round. Against defense 5 and 6 thats statistically 12 dead enemies a turn.

Sorry I haven't sorted the lists yet, I've been busy in the last few days. I'll try and sort something tomorrow.
