A quartet of mace swinging madmen for your viewing pleasure. I have a lot more Templars to show off if you all care to see more Though it'll probably make more sense to photo those in groups I need to learn how to Photoshop multiple pics into one smooth piece....

Glad you all like the models! The power weapons...I'm real indecisive on things like that. I went through a lot- a lot - of different techniques and possibilities. Even now that I settled on this one, I'm still not wholly content. But so far I've had nothing but positive reviews, so I think it may be best for me to shut up and get used to painting that way!

Phoenix: Hmm well, it's a sword on a Sword Brother, in candles, which are also common in Templar art. As someone who knows the bit, it's iconic, yes. But in a more literal sense, the only real icons are the ravenwing, deathwing, and DA icons. That's why I (crappily) covered up the one on the wrist of the mace with a little plasticard shield. Now, if it was a broken sword, that'd be downright DA

DA and Templar aesthetics overlap quite a bit, really. Kind of annoying. But, on the other hand, Templars are spoiled for choice when it comes to kit bashing. Berzerkers have chains, DA have knight-esque bits, SW have some fancy weapons (aside from the ones with actual wolf gubbins on them), WHFB Bretonnian and Empire bits, etc. If I go through the trouble of posting up the rest of my army, it should prove the point pretty well.

The two twin maces are made from WHFB Forsaken maces, chopped off and attached to Vanguard Thunder Hammer hafts.

Desubot: If I could actually afford Forgeworld, I'd have a lot more bits like that. Unfortunately, I can't. That, as well as the FW head, was graciously donated by a friend of mine over on the BnC. The last guy, the OOP metal veteran, was also a donation. Easily one of my top 5 favorite Marine models of all time, and I'm super happy to have him!

Good to see people still giving the BT some love after the low blow they copped.

I try not to think about it

Guess I have some photos to take. The whole army is shown over in my blog on the bolterandchainsword, but a lot of the pics are shoddy crud from my old camera. So I might as well update.

Meh, screw it. The old pics are good enough. The color is a bit bleached out on a few though, like the Landraider and the HQs. I set the curves a little too high in Photoshop to compensate for shoddy lighting.

Yeah, I can see how you would get that impression. I just hate the neanderthal, flat faced Scout model heads, and this was the first solution I could think of. I trimmed off the top to make it a bit smaller, but thanks to the hunchback shape of the torso, it looks a bit odd. But, it's the same size and in the same position as the regular scout heads.

So my defense is basically that the Scout models suck

I really would like a ten pack of Scion bodies and legs to play with. They look a lot more knightly.

There you go.

If I could get those heads in bulk (10), I'd roll with it in a flash.

Buuut after looking around bits sites, those buggers are indeed rather pricey.

Would Space Marine heads look alright without the big old neck and wit hthe top crest shaved off? Or are they just crazy huge by comparison?

Well in the end, I just went with classic Scout models. Painted up this batch of Neophytes bit by bit, and then did a mad dash Thursday and Friday to finish them. I have 2 more who are totally painted, but in the end it turned out that I had painted mismatched shotgun arms. Can't assemble them as such, and my painting hand is locked in an arthritic claw after 2 10+ hour days of marathon painting I'll get to them soon enough.

Anyway, pictures!

Thanks much to you both. I'm not happy with the shade of off white I had to use on the Neophytes, sadly. My Bleached Bone died at last, and I scrambled for a replacement (Ushtabi has too much green in it). I ended up with a P3 paint that is far too yellow for my tastes, but I have some VGC Bonewhite in the mail which will hopefully be closer to the previous shade.

After I fix the two remaining Neophytes, it'll be a trio of Flamer Templars, and then the big man himself.

"Fixed" the two Neophytes I was having issues with. The arms didn't fit, so I was convinced I accidentally painted mismatched pairs. Turns out I was wrong.

More Templars

Sorry I didn't catch your question Sagentus. The white is the old gw paint Bleached Bone. It's just recently been replaced by Vallejo Bonewhite, which is damn near identical. I had to use a P3 stand in for that last batch of Neophytes, but it was way too yellow.

Thanks much Blood. I'm kinda surprised by the comments on Godhand, to be honest. I don't think he's one of my better pieces. I've never been satisfied with his crozius arm or his head. I do like the rest of the model, but my painting on it needs to be refined some day when I have the time and energy

Great looking Army, I love the way you've posed them, they have serious movement. Nothing worse than flat poses. Makes me want to dust of my BT Army and add some more models to it. Again really good and the maces are sick.

Thanks much! I worked hard to make them dynamic, and I'm glad it paid off.

Wow, muchos gracias. But I could point you towards some Templar armies that make mine look like nothin'

High Marshal Ludoldus for your viewing pleasure.

Just realized I forgot to post pics of these guys. They were made immediately after the 4 maul guys.

Thanks much Desu. The scorching was surprisingly easy to do once I figured out a method, but ludicrously time consuming. There is a whole lot of surface area on three drop pods

From the time I clipped them off the sprue to completion, the total hours I spent on these things is around triple digits...

Doors, platforms, fins and console-thingies were all separately painted.

Just the total time I spent putting on masking tape for airbrushing is probably around 15 hours altogether. The pile of tape was about the size of a softball in the end.

Thanks very much, and likewise. I'd never seen your army before. If only I were so productive.

So I decided my Champion, one of the first Templars I ever painted, was in need of a fresh touch. That was...Christmas, I think. Then I finally got around to doing it today.

First shot at black marble for the sword. I think I'm satisfied.

Thanks kindly to the both of you.

Hopefully I'll have my 2 Ironclads done and ready to share in the immediate future as well.

Painted this guy a while back, but he needed a fresh coat, so here's Papa G:

Decided to just use zenithal airbrush to highlight the black. It's a touch washed out in the photo though

One of two dreads I've had on my to do list for ages. Arms are magnetized, his brother is almost done, but I'm out of time for the night and wanted to get in a pic. He's waited long enough to earn that much

Alright, finished the second one, and got more angles of the first:

A Castellan and some Sword Brethren, finished way past due. All backpacks and arms are magnetized. I haven't painted in any scripture because I haven't the time just now, unfortunately.

Oh, hehe. The rims will get painted brown like all the others. I do that right before varnishing (which these guys haven't been yet) because they're the most handled part of the model and I don't want it rubbing off before then.
