In the talk of the new set GW's listing, the three Kans and the ten Grots could be converted to Mek Guns and Crews, which sounds pretty darn interesting.

However.

I'm not certain how to go about doing so, as I've never had Kans myself and don't know what to expct from the models.

I don't suppose anyone has a walkthrough, or would be willing to show some examples, of how to get from point A (Killer Kan sprue) to Point B (Custom Mek Gun.)

I'd be much obliged.

The theory is that you can assemble just the Kan hips and legs, and convert all the other bits into a counts-as mek gun to stick on top of the hips. As they're all energy weapons, recoil isn't an issue, so you don't need to worry about bracing the weapon at the back (although a four-legged gun, or a two-legged gun with wheels at the back or front, would also be cool).

Turning grots into crew is easy - either convert their weapons into tools, or leave them as is and explain that they use busted weapons as tools ("I'll hammer in this rivet with my broken pistol after I tighten this screw with my blunt dagger.")

Fluff-wise, a walking artillery gun sounds perfectly orky.

Model-wise, creating the counts-as mek gun isn't a trivial exercise, as the leftover kan bits don't much resemble a mek gun. But you could certainly make something that looked like a giant energy gun, and just tell opponents that it counts-as a kustom megkannon or whatever - for casual games, no one is likely to complain. If you have a well-stocked bits box, you can make the extra effort to make your conversions look more like the standard models. I'd also suggest putting such a non-standard model on a base around 5x7cm (the standard mek gun size) to avoid arguments about base-to-base contact.
