I've recently started collecting Tyranids after a while away from the hobby.

I'm not a very good painter, I've always painted everything up to a 'passable' standard so I can game without feeling ashamed!

So far I've painted Warriors and Gaunts; undercoated white with Agrax Earthshade over the 'skin' and then Astronomicon Grey/Asurmen Blue over the carapace. Looks passable.

Just started trying to paint some Gargoyles and I've started the same - white undercoat/Agrax Earthshade - and I'm a bit lost as to what to do with the wings. The membrane part of the wings seems like it should be a different colour. Was thinking of washing it read or maybe drybrushing it a lighter colour?

Any advice greatly appreciated!

I personally use Bugman's Glow with a bit of Cadian Fleshtone highlighting and a Reikland Fleshtone wash for the wings on my flying critters, makes for a nice fleshy membrane. If you wanted something a bit more tan, you could also try Karak Stone washed with Agrax Earthshade. Alternatively, at our local shop I've seen people do up their wings with the same set of colors they use to highlight the edges of their creature's carapaces and the end result looks rather neat.

Also when you do the wings, be careful you don't put the paint/wash on too thick. I have a couple Gargoyles that have had some of the holes in their wings accidently sealed up by congealing washes from my getting a bit overzealous with the shading...

Mine were done by washing whilte with a few layers of crimson then a light wash of agrax.
