I'm wondering a little how aleph tend to function, I've been looking around at infinity once again since I've located a local gaming
club nearby that isn't a GW and I'm feeling tempted to deviate from my original idea of running Nomads.

One of the problems I've noticed transitioning over is that everything I like tends to be 'named' or 'expensive' points wise which
is a bit different from what I liked about the Nomads and I'm wondering are there any specific tactics Aleph like to employ that
I should consider when making my Aleph list? How big a list am I looking at finding for them at 150-200-300pt brackets, is it unusual
for a small model count.

A quick note: I'm not a veteran infinity player, far from it. I've never actually played an accurate game of infinity though I do own
the rules for it. That said I don't like buying into starter sets, because ultimately I find I will never use what I get in them as I'm someone
heavily drawn to aesthetics of a game I prefer to make my own unique and individual choices based on miniatures I like.

That said here are a few of the miniatures I like.

Don't be confused, these are the miniatures I like and will probably perchase if only to paint and switch in and out of my lists but I'd
like to be pointed in the right direction with a few tactics or things I can do to start working and putting my favorite miniatures into play.

Aleph stuff tends to be expensive but is very well suited for it's role. Their profiles are tough either through NWI or equipment like ODD. Most of the Steel Phalanx models Frenzy which makes your overall list more resilient since their order pool degrades slower. The army also has a very solid selection of infiltrators and AD troops.

Their long range fire is predominately going to be Multi Snipers because of the have limited access to HMGs but they have excellent short range firepower with the large amounts of Spitfires and almost everything in the faction has a Nanopulsar. If I'm not taking Achilles or an Asura, I like to run 2-3 specialized snipers (TO and MSV2) to clear roofs and hard points. Then move my shorter range infantry into the mid table and try to control the center with the help of infiltrators/AD. It's not the only way to play the faction since there are so many options and you can get some pretty thematic builds like infiltrator heavy or robot horde.

Post-Humans are fun but take a little bit to get the hang of because the G:Jumper rule. Easiest to think of the Ghost Jumper as a separate "model" that gets it's own ARO whenever a Proxy gets an ARO. They get heavy point discounts so they can fit into most lists but only generate 1 order collectively. Always bring a Netrod or two if you have Post-Humans.

Feels a little scary going in with such expensive mini's points wise!
With nomads you get enough to have like, missile bots for bombarding spotted targets and all kinds of stuff
But Aleph I can only just seem to gather about four models before I cap out!

Also how do you make sure to adhere to points limitations? With such high pointed mini's its like, really
difficult to keep the points down to were as it will conform to a specific limit, i.e 150.

The closest I kinda got, in which I was happy with my selection using the info you helped me with was something like this

I'd... I'd fit a few cheaper units in there. Myrmidons, Thorakitai, Dakinis, Garudas... You're going in to a 160pt list with 4 expensive characters, without an order pool to support even one (well, maybe Atalanta).

What are Thorakitai?
Atalanta is the main character Id like to try and keep, I like the idea of using snipers a lot.

@.@ Alke is like, the cheapest lieutenant.
Problem with the bots is garuda are 22pts each and the dakinis are 13 bare, 20+ for something nice on them though they can have multi snipers which is nice.

As much as I love the model I would be compelled to drop Penthesilea and look at trying to work her back in at maybe 200-300pts I suppose.
But even doing that for a 150 pt game will by me 2-3 cheap bots.

Thorakitai are the infantry looking guys in the Steel Phalanx starter. They're slower medium infantry (compared to the faster light infantry Myrmidons), but still cheap enough to include to bulk up a list.

Don't scoff at 'bare' Dakinis with only a combi rifle. For one, you're mostly including them for the order they generate. Second, a few basic combi rifle Dakinis in your deployment zone are perfectly good defenders. If someone aerial deploys in your backfield, it's better having a few combi rifles that can make ARO's against it than nothing at all.

Aren't you severely over the SWC limit as well? It's 1 SWC per 50 points isn't it? So with a 150 target list you can only have 3 SWC max.

No idea why Thorakitai aren't on the army builder. They've been in the game since Paradiso. Maybe you're using an old army builder?

You're still 2pts over 150pts. That's still a pretty big no no.

Also, you'll need a hacker to take Dakinis (hence why I suggested Myrmidons or Thorakitai as well). If you change the Naga Multisniper to a Hacker, the Dakinis are unlocked as useable.

Changing to hacker did seem to fix my points and hacker problem >w< though I do love the model with the sniper.
How big do infinity games usually reach to? I see you have like 500 points, and with the cost of some of the characters and mags and all that I'm curious how many points people expand to.

I would still love to fit in the bike lady and the spec-ops person into my list as I love the models >w<

Actually I take that bat a bit about the thorakitai, their armor is quite nice. Just the cost to have them with the same weaponry loadout is basically a 2 for 3 equivalent.

300pts is the standard, 400pts was introduced as a test in ITS 2014. But you can play any size you want, really. Pick up games will probably be 300pts.

150 doesn't seem too bad for a noobie like me then xD to learn with.

i didn't want to jump in too high so I'm content with that. 300 will at least let me add a sniper naga or perhaps the biker or spec ops person in.

I'm looking as though I will probably continue with the bots theme rather then employ humanoid help. I see they can run HMG's for 22pts as well as alternate artillery bots and the sort which look kinda interesting.

150pts is a great place to start. It gives you enough points to include a few interesting units (and you definitely have those with Atalanta and a Deva with Devabot) and some grunts, but is still small enough to not get bogged down.

I recommend against 150pts myself. You can't make a good 'toolbox' at that level, so your liable to be curbstomped in a paper-scissors-rock fashion.

After the "3 LI, 1 HI" and the basic "infiltrators, warbands, camo, AD" games I send newbies directly to 200pt

Corvus Belli disagree with you, since they specifically have an ITS format that starts at 120pts for new players.

It's really not a problem as long as you're learning with other people. It's when you play against an experienced player who doesn't know to pull punches against a newbie that it becomes one.

Yeah I'm hoping people would be gentle with me to start with xD I don't expect to be winning, Just to be let to do my stuff long enough to see what things do and how things work.

If I find they catered to sheer stomping at 150pts I would probably move on to try and find someone else to play to learn because anyone taking a comp list against me for my first series of games is a jerk xD

ITS - infinity tournament system.

Yes, they are not allowed in ITS (unless they're part of the sectorial). Questionable what they intend to do with them, once the new rule set is published.

Ignoring ITS, you can load them in Aleph toolbox or simply use (bandwidth greedy) official army builder.

Their AVA changes (if it's not a character), should you want to play more than 300 points. I wouldn't recommend investing into mercenaries. At least until more is known in what shape they'll be in the context of new rules.

PENTHESILEA - I love this miniature and actually want to make use of it within one of my lists
so I came up with this one as in a standard list I find it hard to squeeze her points in.
Idea behind the list: Attempt to use the Dasyus and Atalanta to pick off stray units wherever possible while maintaining a patrol around terrain using the high manueverability of the Lamedh Rebot's alongside Penthesilea. Assassinate TAG's and other important targets combining Lamedh electric pulse with Penthesilea Melee (-6 from pulse + another -6 for ikhol)

Questions
Some things I don't know much about though... Link teams? I don't really know anything about them, the bonuses for them or what to do with them. I know people like sectorial armies for certain reasons
also but I have no idea why that is either xD

Groups, how do they influence my in game. I got stuck with one setup saying I couldn't exceed 10 miniatures in a group but at the same time I don't know if randomly slipping one off into a group 2 would
affect my orders or how that would work even though the army builder said that it was okay to do.

Aleph are a little different in the link team department. Their link teams are based off the Fireteam: Itchy more foot.(I can't spell it off the top of my head)

The benefit of link teams are you get more orders and spend less on activating that team. EXP: A link team of four can move all with one order, but still provide four orders to the reserve. The catch is only the leader can shoot, discover, and use support skills.

Bonuses are simple:

3+ Add one to the B of the weapon being used.
4+ Team gains Sixth Sense L2
5+ BS +3 to the people shooting.

There's more to it, but I don't feel like typing it all out.
Ten miniatures that have an order, are the max in one combat group. That also means there's multiple order pools. You can't spend orders from group one to group two, so, having a lone miniature is something I'd advise against until you're comfortable with what you're doing.
